I waited as patiently as I could for Lauren to begin talking. She cleared her throat intentionally. I stomped my feet on the ground and made a weird sound out of my lack of patience. "Someone is impatient" she said evilly. I gave a sarcastic laugh. "I don't even understand why you want to know so badly. Wait....have you even spoken to him before?" She asked. Right...I never told her what happened at the party, have I?
"Actually while we're on the topic I have something to tell you" I said haltingly.
"Ok, what's up?" She asked. I could hear the slight worried edge in the tone of her voice.
"So remember that party?" I asked. I started tapping my fingers on my thigh nervously.
"Mhmm" she said slowly.
"Well funny story. I got my head bashed against a shed by Daniel, Natalie's boyfriend" I said quickly. I gave a dubious chuckle after a few seconds of silence.
"Oh my gosh Ava" she whispered. I bit the inside of my cheek and tried to forget the images that were surfacing. "Why didn't you tell me?" She asked quietly. I felt so guilty right then.
"It wasn't as bad as it sounds, I mean it could of been worse if it wasn't for Nicholas" I said.
"Nicholas...as in Nicholas Thomas?" She asked with the surprise obvious in her tone.
"Yep...that's the guy" I said. After a few seconds of no response I realised she must of expected me to continue the conversation. "So uhh, he punched him pretty bad. He actually stood up for me earlier on during the night, when Natalie was being a b*tch" I added. I heard her take a deep intake of breath. I could tell she couldn't believe her ears.
"How could I not of known that? I am so sorry I wasn't there with you Ava! I feel horrible" she said sincerely. I quickly shook head automatically but realised she couldn't see me.
"No, don't think like that. I should of told you earlier. Don't blame yourself" I said as sweetly as I could master.
"Thanks Ava, anyways please continue. I am sure there is more" she said. I racked of mind for any other...interesting memories from the party.
"Umm...well I guess getting to why we are on this topic. I did speak to him, quite a bit actually. He apologised for not stopping Natalie earlier. The girls thought we were dating, apparently we looked 'close'" I said, saying the last sentence in utter disbelief. I heard a weird choking sound come through my speaker.
"Lauren? Are you okay?" I asked quickly. She gave a few coughs and cleared her throat.
"All good, I was just drinking something. Must of gone down the wrong way" she said with a nervous chuckle.
I leaned forward and rested my chin on my palm. "It wasn't because of what I just told you about the girls assuming things?" I asked accusingly.
"Nahhh....what you said had nothing to do with it. I mean you and Nicholas are easy to be shipped...look at you both...Natalie would be so jealous if she found out you guys were going to start dating" she said nonchalantly.
Now I was the one choking. I quickly hit my chest with a fist. "What? That is not happening!" I said in a high pitch tone. I took a quick breath and tried to calm down. My eyes fluttered shut for the slightest of moments.
"You know I think I know why he hit him now" Lauren said, almost as if to herself. Who hit who?
"What?" I asked with a furrowed eye brow.
"Oh yeah, forgot to tell you why Mr Badboy was expelled. He got really furious for some reason and he punched Daniel. I'd say that it isn't a coincidence he hit him after everything that happened at the party" she said in a knowing tone. I rolled my eyes jokingly.
"Sure" I say sarcastically. But it still got me thinking, why was he furious? It is a strong word to describe someone, especially when it comes to a human being such as Nicholas Thomas.
"Yeah well, that caused a bit of a punch on. Daniel obviously lost....but Nicholas got expelled. So, you could say Nicholas was the real loser here" she said. I wanted to argue back, but I had no excuse for doing so. I kept my mouth shut. "Anyways, they were spitting out words. I hardly understood what they were saying. But I know Daniel said something while he passed Nicholas, that's when Nicholas gave him the death glare and punched him. He didn't even think about it, he just punched him in an instant. Natalie looked pretty upset at what they were arguing about...actually she looked...jealous? I don't know....but it would make so much sense if they were fighting over what happened to you" she said and I could almost sense the smirk she was holding through the reviever.
I bit my lip and looked down. I hope he didn't get expelled over something that happened at the party. That wouldn't be right. I shook my head of those thoughts. "Umm...listen Lauren, I really should go. I promise I'll call you soon okay?" I said.
"Oh yeah, sure. Bye Avery!" she said happily. I groaned at the name.
"Bye bye! Don't call me that!" I laughed. I hung up the phone. I slumped back on my bed, and looked up at my bare ceiling, with so many thoughts rushing around in my mind. I couldn't help but hope Nicholas had caused Daniel at least half the pain I had felt. Is that bad? Well, too late...I couldn't help but think that way. I got up and pulled my floral dress down, it was still on from school. What was I doing before the call again? This really bugged me! I knew it but I didn't at the same time. It is hiding in the back of my mind but it isn't willing to show. I flung my head back and groaned. The sudden buzzing of my phone startled me. I hastily grabbed it and unlocked it to a load of messages from Emily. EMILY! The messages were of her asking where her answers were....
I gave a short reply explaining I will give it to her soon. I threw my phone carelessly on my bed, and opened my science textbook.
