Dhara clung tightly to Reva, her arms wrapping around her with a desperation that words could never capture. She buried her face in Reva's shoulder and let out a torrent of tears, her sobs echoing in the stillness around them.
Reva stood frozen, utterly taken aback by Dhara's sudden outburst. Her mind raced, trying to process what was happening, but no words came to her lips. For a moment, she could only stare ahead, her body rigid with shock, her heart pounding. She felt Dhara's trembling form against her, heard the raw pain and relief in her cries, and yet she was too stunned to move, to speak, to comfort.
Dhara, however, couldn't hold anything back. She clung to Reva like a lifeline, her tears pouring out years of longing, joy, and unspoken words. Seeing Reva after so long-so unexpectedly-was overwhelming. She didn't know what to say, didn't even trust her voice to speak. Instead, her tears told the story of her heart: how deeply she had missed her, how much this moment meant, and how happiness, after so much time, had finally found her again.
A few moments later, Reva managed to collect herself, firmly pushing Dhara away from her embrace.
"Please, stop it!" she shouted, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and unease.
Startled by the sudden rejection, Dhara stood frozen, her tearful eyes locked on Reva, filled with confusion and hurt.
"Are you out of your mind? Let go of me!" Reva yelled again, her voice sharper this time, her expression hardening as her eyes blazed with fury.
Dhara flinched at the harshness, taking an instinctive step back. Her heart pounded as fear mingled with the ache of rejection. She stared at Reva's face-now cold, distant, and unfamiliar.
"R-Reva Di... don't you really remember me?" Dhara stammered, her voice breaking, her hands trembling as she clutched them to her chest. "It's me... Dhara. Ten years ago, you and Hetal Di saved us. How can you forget?"
She blinked back tears, her words tumbling out in desperation. "The Massurrie Highway... the ambulance... don't you remember anything? You and Hetal Di-jumping out of that ambulance to protect us. And that boy-the brave boy who fought those monsters and saved us from those men."
Dhara's voice cracked as memories overwhelmed her. She searched Reva's face for even a flicker of recognition, her heart shattering as she whispered, "Please, tell me you remember, Di... please."
Reva froze, staring at Dhara in utter disbelief as her words echoed in her ears. One by one, the brutal memories she had buried deep began to surface, flashing before her eyes like a storm she couldn't escape.
Her breath hitched, caught painfully in her chest. Her arms and legs felt paralyzed, as though the weight of the past had locked her in place. A cold shiver coursed through her body, raising every hair on her skin as Dhara's words peeled back the scars she had carried for a decade. Wounds she thought were long healed now burned as fresh as the day they were inflicted.
Without warning, tears welled up in her eyes, spilling down her cheeks in streams she couldn't stop. Her vision blurred, and her lips trembled as a single, broken word escaped her mouth.
"B-Baccha..." she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.
Her trembling hand reached out, brushing against Dhara's tear-streaked face. The touch was hesitant, as if she feared this moment might shatter and leave her grasping at shadows.
