At Night - Samar's Chamber
"Ranasa, that file wa-"
Abhinav stepped into the dimly lit room, holding an important folder in his hands. But his feet froze mid-step.
Samar was seated in his usual chair, his posture stiff yet tired, his eyes locked on a small folded paper-that same 'Thank You' note.
A glass of wine sat untouched beside him, and his fingers absently kept tracing the edges of the note.
It wasn't the first time.
Every night, Abhinav had seen this silent ritual-Samar returning from work, drowning in silence, staring at that one note as if it were the only thing tethering him to something real.
Not saying a word. Not doing anything. Just... remembering.
Tonight was no different.
But it still hurt to see him like this.
Abhinav's heart twisted.
"What is it in her?" he wondered silently.
"What power does she hold over him that's cracking even this stone-hearted king? The man who never listened to his own heartbeat is now enslaved to its every echo... and it's terrifying."
He took a hesitant step forward.
"Ranasa... what kind of spell has she cast on you? Why do you look so... broken?"
Abhinav's thoughts echoed like guilt inside his chest.
"I know you're at war-with your heart and your mind. But please... this time, trust your brain. Otherwise... I'll lose you too."
His hand tightened around the file. His throat was dry.
"Should I tell him? Should I tell Ranasa about Dhara's condition? What if he asks? What will I say then? I've never lied to him... never hidden anything. But this... this truth will destroy him."
He looked at Samar again-still unmoving. Still lost.
"God... what do I do?"
"Ranasa... s-should I... inform him?" his inner voice trembled with uncertainty.
Mustering courage, he stepped forward, his chest tight with anxiety, his voice barely finding its way through his throat.
"R... Ranasa..."
No response.
"R... Ra... Ranasa."
Only after the fifth or sixth time did Samar turn his face slightly-his gaze heavy, unreadable, almost hollow.
Abhinav's blood ran cold.
He suddenly felt like a criminal in front of his king.
"Hmm."
Samar's response was as cold and detached as ever.
Abhinav stuttered, heart pounding.
"I... I n-need to... I m-mean... you need to go through this file. It's important. After reading it, you can sign it."
"Hmm."
That was all Samar said, again. His tone unreadable. Not cold. Not warm. Just... absent.
Abhinav stood there, his lips pressed tight, wanting to say something more-something human, something real. But he stopped himself.
Samar's face was pale.
His eyes? Void.
He was there-but not really.
