“Then just tell me,” she whispered, her voice breaking again, “Are you tired of me? Is that what this is?”

She bit her lip hard, fighting the tears that wanted to spill again. “Did you meet someone else? Someone older… more beautiful, more educated, taller than me? Is that why you’re ending this?”

She looked at him, eyes wide, pleading—wanting the answer, but terrified of hearing it.

Samar's heart ached at her words, the pain in her voice cutting through him. He reached out and gently handed her the tissue, as she was still wiping her nose with her sleeves.

“Dhara, please don’t think that way,” Samar said softly, his voice raw with emotion. “There’s no truth in those thoughts. You… you’re beautiful in your own unique way. Innocent, pure. Remember that, always.”

He gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing her damp cheek. His eyes, usually hard as stone, now held a rare tenderness. “Your purity shines, Dhara. It makes you more beautiful than anyone I’ve ever known.”

He paused, collecting his thoughts. “And I—I’m the one who’s endangered that. I blame myself. You’re at a fragile point in life, and I… I should have guided you, not confused you. You’re like a gust of wind, blowing free, unaware of the direction it’s headed.”

Dhara’s brows furrowed. Her innocent heart struggled to absorb the shift—the sudden weight of his words after moments of closeness that had felt so perfect. Her confusion, her quiet devastation, showed in her eyes.

“I know it’s hard to understand right now,” Samar added, his tone hushed with regret. “But sometimes… we get swept into moments we never intended. It doesn’t mean you’re at fault. It means I should’ve known better.”

She stared at him in silence, a storm of sadness and incomprehension swirling behind her eyes.

“I’m not saying this to hurt you,” he continued. “I’m saying it because I want to set things right. You don’t deserve the weight of my mistakes.”

“But what haven’t you ruined yet?” she asked, her voice trembling. “What’s still left to destroy?”

Samar looked down, nervously tracing invisible shapes with his fingers on the table beside them. “There’s one thing I haven’t broken,” he said at last. “Your innocence. I haven’t crossed *that* line, Dhara. And I won’t. I can’t. It would destroy me.”

Her expression wavered between shock and hurt. “My innocence?” she echoed, confused. “What do you mean?”

He met her eyes. “I mean... you’re still untouched by the darkest things I’ve done. And I can't bear the thought of being the one to take that last bit of purity from you.”

Tears rose in her eyes again, but her voice held strength. “Hukum, I made my own choices. I chose you. I knew this wasn’t easy, but I still stayed. This connection—it wasn’t just yours. I shared it too.”

“I know,” he whispered. “And that’s what makes it harder. You gave your trust, and I broke it.”

Her next words cracked with sorrow. “Then why did you let me fall? Why did you let me believe in something that wasn’t real?”

Samar sighed, eyes clouded with remorse. “Because I wanted to believe it too. I was selfish. I thought I could handle it. But I was wrong.”

“So you’re leaving me,” she said quietly, the pain behind those words slicing deeper than any scream.
