Chapter 106: Daily Life Between Brother and Sister

Around eight o’clock, Song Yimo and her older brother took their grandfather to the hotel, and on the way back, they chatted about Grandfather’s suggestion.

With practiced ease, Zhai Muyang turned the steering wheel. “The old man’s been a teacher all his life, so naturally he thinks what he teaches is best. But if you ask me, any field you truly master can be useful. Don’t pay him too much mind. You’ve got two whole years until the entrance exams. Take your time, think it over, and just choose something you genuinely want to study.”

“When I was little, my dream was to be a teacher.” She chuckled, recalling that her time at school, though sometimes challenging, had been mostly rewarding.

“But now I don’t really feel like it anymore, and I don’t have anything specific in mind. Grandpa’s idea sounds pretty good to me, though. At the very least, I could become a translator. And if things went well—who knows?—maybe one day I could even translate for some important leader. Those translators on the news, standing by officials, look so dignified.”

“That level’s hard to reach.”

“Of course it’s hard. That’s why it’s a worthy goal. Where’s the fun in aiming for something easy?”

Song Yimo’s playful smile left Zhai Muyang wondering if she was joking or actually serious about this ambition.

“Then go for it,” he encouraged.

Song Yimo glanced out the window as the streetlights glowed. A breeze stirred the air, and a woman up ahead, with a graceful figure, hurriedly held down her skirt.

Zhai Muyang frowned. “Going out at night dressed like that isn’t safe. Don’t you ever do it.”

“With a skirt that short? I wouldn’t dare! By the time I got upstairs, everyone would’ve seen everything.”

Zhai Muyang imagined the scene, and his face darkened. He made a mental note to keep an eye on her wardrobe. *Absolutely not.*

“Oh, by the way, how’s that teacher of yours doing?”

“She got divorced recently. The whole situation blew up; her son caused such a scene that the school board got involved,” Song Yimo sighed. “It’s been tough on the school’s reputation, and people have been saying all sorts of things. Our teacher’s lost so much weight these past months; she looks like a skeleton.”

Zhai Muyang glanced at her. “And that pair of… individuals?”

“Teacher Zhu was reassigned to a rural school, and the woman just vanished—she didn’t even bother submitting a resignation letter. I heard her husband beat her daily, so she eventually just ran off.”

Zhai Muyang wanted to ask, 'Is this the outcome you wanted?'

But he couldn’t bring himself to say it.

Song Yimo had a calm, easygoing nature. She asked little of others and repaid kindness generously.

Those who treated her poorly?

She simply accepted it, knowing better than anyone that no one was obligated to be kind. But her involvement in this situation with her homeroom teacher was unlike her usual self.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that something must have happened between Yimo and Chen Biling—something his investigation hadn’t uncovered. Perhaps Chen Biling had once helped Song Yimo in a significant way, and now Song Yimo was repaying that debt.

The next morning, Zhai Muyang brought Song Yimo and Miao Zhiruo along to the hotel.

The three of them enjoyed breakfast on the second floor.
