December 31, 2018.

Kai's birthday is on the New year, the First of January.

She was more concerned about the whole predicament than I was.

"I don't care what the hell between you two, you better be coming tonight and...", she crossed her arms across her chest, "...you guys better be talking cause I don't want to see grumpy faces on the eve of my birthday"

I sighed softly, "Of course I am coming. I wouldn't miss it"

She looked over at Aadhvita.
"I am coming too", she said nodding.

I would be lying if I said I didn't receive any apologetic texts over the past few days.

I didn't reply to any them as I didn't want to.

Apology over a text means nothing to me, honestly.

Kai exhaled, "Good... Don't be too hard on yourselves", and with that she left Aadhvita's place.

I came here only because I wanted to study and clear my doubts not because I wanted to see her face or something...

I shouldered my bag, ready to leave when she grabbed my wrist.

I didn't turn around.

"Your silence is killing me...", Aadhvita said, her grip on my wrist tight.

I sighed, "Let go"

"No.", her voice was firm and edgy.

"Leave me to myself for a few more days."

"At least look at me...", her grip slid down from my wrist to my palm.

The contact is too much.

I exhaled sharply, "Aadhvita please... I will– I will talk when I feel like it, you have my word"

She let go of my hand, "I will hold onto that word then"

I left her house, taking deep breaths.

It was immature, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt.

I found myself crying and getting embarrassed for sounding so desperate and vulnerable infront of her.

I just wanted to be with her, it may come out as childish but that's what I wanted from the bottom of my heart.

I was never the type to worry about future, especially if it's as uncertain as a relationship.

The day was a blur and I got ready for the sleepover.

I just wore sweatpants and a normal tshirt.
I packed some extra pair of clothes and my brush as I was going to stay at Kai's place the next day too.

Her birthday was always me and her, she didnt like inviting people much to her place.

Not because she didn't like them, she just wanted to enjoy it with me. Now Aadhvita too.

"Okay mom and dad, see you", i said slipping my shoes in.

"Did you put in her gift?", my mom called out.

"Yes I did!"

"Have fun!", my dad called out.

"Thanks. Bye!"

I walked towards Kai's place.
Most of my destinations were walking distance.

Soon enough, I was infront of her door, ringing it.

"Heyyyyyy!!", she said enthusiastically and dragged me in.

I chuckled, "You seem excited"

She looked at me grinned devilishly and I knew that grin.

"What... Did you do, Kai..?", I asked my words trailing off.

Aadhvita was already seated on the floor infront of the couch.

Her house was scenting the usual, Jasmine.

She pulled me onto the floor with her and I placed my bag on the couch.

I looked at both of them, clearly confused and nervous.

"What?", I asked irritated.

Then, Kai dragged a bag from the side of the couch.

And I was in utter shock.
She placed two large bottles of... Beer?

"What's– oh god—"

"It's beer!!", she squealed.

Aadhvita laughed.

"How did you even get that!? We aren't allowed to drink until we are 21!"

"I have my ways", she said laughing exaggeratedly.

I held my hand to my mouth, of course I was in shock, for someone like me, it's a big thing.

"C'mon... It's fine! It's just us three!", she said nudging my elbow.

"Still, Kai! It's—", I cut off not really knowing what to say.

"Okay I won't force you okay? Just look at us while we drink then!", she said chuckling.

I looked at Aadhvita, "You will drink?", I asked still in daze.

"It's fine I guess..?", she said rubbing her neck.

Yeah no, I am not doing that.
