MODIEGI
We're in the hall, waiting to hear who won that competition of getting the most donors for the matrics of next year.
Well, I believe we won even though I didn't get as much donors because I don't really know anyone in Gauteng besides the people at school and at church.
I haven't really had as much time to spend with Andile since my sister's coma. Mainly because so much has been happening my life and there really isn't time for me interact with him as much because we're writing June exams next week.
"You think we won, Ms Ketshabile?" Yvonne asks just as we're seated.
Modiegi: "I wouldn't really know for sure."
Just then, the Mrs Retief walks up the stage.
Retief: "Good morning seniors of Summerhill College." She says with a proud smile on her face.
"Good morning ma'am."
Retief: "I'm sure you're aware of what's happening today, but I won't be the bearer of this exciting news, so I would like to call on our head boy, Andile Mngomezulu and our head girl, Maya Govender."
We applaud as we walk up the stage.
"How are you guys feeling this morning?" Andile says sounding enthusiastic.
I can't help it. His smile is really making me smile.
I don't know how his eyes found its way into mine. Or maybe it's the huge afro that makes me noticeable.
Andile: "You know what, I'd feel good too." He says after students respond. "So as you know, two months ago, we gave you a really fun challenge of getting as much donors as possible for the matrics of 2019 and I must say I am really proud of all of you for your participation because this school has made a total of fifty thousand rand, so please give yourselves a round of applause!"
R50 thousand?? For jackets?? Now that is insane!
Andile: "Listen, if it were up to me, I would have allowed every grade here to get into the exclusive party, but unfortunately only one grade made it possible to make 65% of that R50 thousand. Maya, would you like to tell the people who it is?" He says looking at her.
Maya: "With pleasure. Yes, so according to calculations that had been made, R50 thousand profit had been made, of which one grade is responsible for making 65% of that profit and that is..." She opens the envelope. "Congratulations to the Grade 10s!"
Us?? For real???!
I'd celebrate and scream and cheer too. Well, because I am a Grade 10 myself.
Maya: "So the Grade 10s are the ones that will be at the exclusive party!" She says once we've settled down.
Andile: "Yes and we will be handing out letters to you guys so your parents are notified. But of course, this is a school party so remember; no alcohol, no drugs and cigarettes, no weapons and this is an exclusive party so you're definitely not allowed to bring anyone who is not from the school."
Maya: "Thank you and you may be dismissed to your classes."
Yvonne: "You're coming to the party, right?" She says in my ear.
Honestly... I really don't know.
KGOMOTSO
"Awu, Kgomotso. I was going to give you your breakfast." My mom says when I find them eating on the dining table.
Kgomotso: "Oh no, mma. I'm fine. I'd like to have a break from bedroom."
Mama: "Are you sure?"
Kgomotso: "Yes Ma."
