KGOMOTSO
Why is it that everytime something good happens in my life, it has to be accompanied by something as bad as this?!!
Like, what are the freaking odds?
On a Sunday morning like this?
Those bloody journalists! I'm going to sue them!
There are three aggressive knocks on my door.
Kgomotso: "What?!" I snap.
"It's me." Rele says.
I'm still in my gown contemplating whether or not we're going to church.
I had to find this whole article out from Yonela.
Who the f--- was even sent to do this?
And how come I didn't notice any camera flashing at us?
Yoh, Simphiwe! His reputation as a pastor.
Did that bloody journalist even think about that before releasing this stupid article?
And how does an article get released at 5 in the morning???
Relebogile: "Can I come in?" He demands.
Kgomotso: "Come in! Yeses." I remark.
He closes the door once he gets in.
I don't want to look at him but I have no choice.
Relebogile: "Charity event, Kgomotso?"
I've got no time to explain to him, bathong!
It's my life!
Kgomotso: "Okay, fine! I lied--"
Relebogile: "A new man?" He frowns.
He is so tense! You can't even cut the tension with a knife!
It's that superpower all Kunupi men have - that face that makes the whole atmosphere tense.
Kgomotso: "So I'm not supposed to move on?" I still manage to say.
Relebogile: "Kgomotso, it hasn't even been a year since Lesego died and already you have a new man?"
Kgomotso: "Kanti, I'm supposed to be a widow forever?!" I snap. "Relebogile, please. No one is going to tell me what to do with my life."
Relebogile: "What about Lefika then?"
Kgomotso: "My son has got nothing to do with this, Rele. You know how your brother was and I thought you would be happy with me moving on."
Relebogile: "Kgomotso, do you understand the kind of mess you have just done? What are you going to say to the kids?"
Oh, come on!
Did he really have to pull that card?
It's just us standing. Looking at each other fiercely in the eyes. And I'm not liking it one bit.
Relebogile: "You'd better fix this."
He leaves my room.
These bloody journalists!
Lebone then enters my room.
I know she won't judge me.
Lebone: "Skeem, what happened?" She says as she comes to hug me.
I somehow can't tear up. And that's a good thing. I'm sick of crying and right now is really not the time to cry.
Kgomotso: "He really came for me."
Lebone: "I'll talk to him."
She lets me go.
Lebone: "So what's the plan, skeem?"
My mind is thinking of the impossible right now.
It's really stupid, but I'm going to do it either way.
__________
"This is the place." I say as she stops at the gate.
If it wasn't for the gate I don't think I would have recognised the house.
"So what do we do now, skeem?" Lebone asks.
Kgomotso: "We wait until he comes out."
Lebone: "And the kids?"
