KGOMOTSO
MARCH, 2021
"I've decided. I want to be your wife, Simphiwe."
He looks at me immediately.
I look away from the beautiful morning view from the balcony of my room and look at him.
Simphiwe: "What?" He asks in disbelief.
Kgomotso: "I'm ready to get married again." I say before I walk closer to him.
It's not like we're getting younger.
He's 31 and I'm turning 29 soon and after everything that's happened, I've decided that I want to be his wife.
It's only right that way. Plus he's been through a lot as well and I think this would make him happy.
A lot has happened. Especially on his side.
Well, him and his father aren't on speaking terms. And surprisingly Aunt Lydia moved to Benoni, in her mother's old home and wants nothing to do with her brother too.
I don't know what happened and quite frankly, I don't wish to know.
Sihle and Amanda had their thing too going on in court, but Sihle won the case and moved to Germany two years ago.
He even told us that he found his soulmate. We only met her once through a FaceTime.
And yes, she's white. Her name is Anne.
Lydia better be ready for that and Anne also has to be ready to be a Zulu makoti because I don't think Lydia is a modern mother-in-law herself.
So yes, Sihle and Amanda are done. It's been two years and I think they're happier apart.
And on my side, my mother is still in Turfloop and seems to have healed from her husband's death.
She wants nothing to do with Sophie and her children and so do I. We're enough.
Mahlodi got married to that Buhle guy last year December and well, Matome says he's still searching for his man before Mma finds him a wife from Ga-Mashashane.
My babies aren't babies anymore.
Nope. Modiegi is now in varsity doing her second year in law in Cape Town and coincidentally, her man, Andile is there pursuing his rugby career too.
Lebone and Rele are still in Japan, but they're on their way to South Africa.
Tlhalefo is now 17, Titi is turning 11 and Tumelo is 10.
And my baby Lefika is now 3. Kids really do grow fast, don't they?
He looks like his father. His exact spitting image.
I know Lesego would brag about how he looks like him and throw it in my face, him being the clown he was.
I've healed from him. I've healed from his death.
But most importantly, I've forgiven him. For everything he did.
I've forgiven him and I've moved on.
And now I'm ready to say yes to being Simphiwe's wife, which he still can't believe.
Simphiwe: "Are you serious?" He says emitting a chuckle with his gorgeous smile.
I nod smiling.
He comes closer to me and picks me up and spins me around as I laugh.
He puts me down and kisses me.
I just know I made his morning.
I'm ready to be his.
