KGOMOTSO
This evening is exactly how I planned it in my head.
The kids are asleep and it's already 10PM.
I'm just waiting for him to arrive.
Three knocks on my door.
Perfect.
He's here.
When I open the door, I see him holding flowers and a glass of wine.
He's wearing smart casual which makes him look a fine man!
"Ms Mashaba." He says.
Kgomotso: "Mr Pholoba. Come in."
I make way for him enter and he places the flowers and wine on the kitchen counter.
He turns around to hug me and then he kisses my cheek and then his lips reach my lips as his hands go further down reaching my buttocks.
Simphiwe: "How are you, baba?" He says after parting from me.
I pull him closer to me.
He chuckles.
Simphiwe: "You've missed me?"
Yeses! That base!
Kgomotso: "Very much."
He kisses me before cuddling me once again.
This is exactly what I want. Being in his arms once again.
Kgomotso: "Hope I won't spoil the mood when I say I left you some pizza in the microwave."
He laughs.
Simphiwe: "You know what, it's the thought of me that counts."
I burst in laughter.
Our eyes lock and I don't want to look anywhere else.
Lately I've been feeling like the old me again.
That Kgomotso that was before Lesego came into my life.
It feels good.
I'm me again and that feels good.
He made me find myself again.
I found myself in him again.
Now that I'm looking at him, I see the 16-year-old Simphiwe I met that fateful day.
He was fine and he still is with his grown beard.
I watched him grow from being a teenage boy to being a 29-year-old man.
I'm proud of myself. I'm proud of us.
His face comes closer to mine and I let him kiss me before I kiss him back.
Simphiwe: "I'd like us to go outside. Do you have a speaker?"
Kgomotso: "Speaker? Simphiwe, people are sleeping in this house."
Simphiwe: "I won't be loud. I promise."
Kgomotso: "Fine."
After I spent about three minutes looking for the speaker I don't find him in the kitchen.
I look through the sliding door in the middle and I find him sitting by the lapa and having his leftover pizza.
Kgomotso: "There you are."
Simphiwe: "Is it on?" He's referring to the speaker.
Kgomotso: "Yeah."
He connects his phone to it through Bluetooth.
And after what feels like hours of scrolling through his phone, I hear that melody.
Sade!
He loves Sade and so do I.
He plays "Kiss of Life". Our song.
Simphiwe: "Do you remember our song babe?"
I'm crying!
He stands up and puts the plate aside and takes my hands.
Kgomotso: "Phiwe!"
Simphiwe: "Baba."
We were young. We were so young when we first danced to this song together.
This is making me so emotional.
He holds my hand with his one hand and the other goes down my lower back.
We're dancing to this song like how we once did.
I've never forgotten that he loves Sade.
I'm crying and smiling and dancing all at the same time.
