SIMPHIWE

27 MAY

That evening recurs in my head again.
I thought I was over it.
It's been two years since her death and today of all days that day replays in my head.
She died on this day.
I'm facing the ceiling of my room in my father's house while Nkanyezi is now old enough to be without me for a few days. She turned 2 last week.
She'll never remember her. She doesn't even know Lindiwe and I doubt she'll ever know about her, unless one day I'll sit her down and tell her about that part of my life.
That day isn't supposed to resurface. I'm sure it's the enemy's tactics of getting me depressed again since I'm very where I am with Kgomotso.

He never knocks, he just enters.

"Fuze."

Simphiwe: "Baba."

I'm still facing the ceiling with my arms and legs stretched out. I'm too lazy to tilt my head.
He joins me on my bed.

Baba: "Are you okay?"

Simphiwe: "Mm." I nonchalantly reply.

Baba: "You're getting those memories again, aren't you?"

Simphiwe: "It's gotten worse."

I know he doesn't know what to do anymore.
He wasn't really there for me half the time while my mother was begging for me to come alive again.

Baba: "Sorry about that."

Simphiwe: "It's okay."

He leaves.
I'm not surprised. I'm used to it.
I need Kgomotso.

KGOMOTSO

Apparently something happened in their school which led them to stay at home for a week now so I left my baby with Modiegi to drive to the Pholoba house since Lefika is now old enough to be taken care of by Modiegi.
He shouldn't be problem. Especially since he's quiet baby that's regained his baby fat and all hewants to do is sit and eat and chew his pacifier and walk and watch TV all day. I'm afraid I might be raising a very lazy child.

I'm nervous about showing up to the Pholoba residence. I don't know what they're reaction might be like because it will be my first time seeing them since I got back with Simphiwe.
It's mostly Aunt Lydia's reaction that might scare me.

I've arrived. He's standing right outside the gate with his hands in the pockets of his white Adidas tracksuit pants.
I don't know what this guy's obsession with that white Adidas tracksuit is, but whoever plugged him deserves their flowers.
This tracksuit makes him look even more attractive like he never used to be obsessed with that beanie and hoodie combo.

"kaMashaba."

Kgomotso: "Nyuswa kaDingila."

I give him a huge hug as I chuckle, but I can tell that he really isn't okay.
The way he's clinging onto me... Something isn't right.

Kgomotso: "What is it baba?"

Simphiwe: "I need you today."

Kgomotso: "Is everything okay?"

Simphiwe: "Can we talk inside the house?"

Kgomotso: "Okay then."

Simphiwe: "Aunt Lydia no baba aren't around. Sihle, Amanda and Gcinile went to Tembisa so it's just MaZwane, Aunt Gladys and I."

Kgomotso: "Okay then, let's go inside."

As I enter, I find Nomasonto and Aunty Gladys the housekeeper working in the kitchen.
They gasp once they see me.
