10 days. Not that Kate had been keeping track or anything. 10 days since she came back from Vormir. 10 days since Sonya had been in a coma. And 10 very long days since she exchanged more than stupid pleasantries with fiancée. Honestly, Kate wasn't even sure she could still call her that. Yelena hadn't said more than a few hellos and goodbyes to her over the last 10 days. Gods forbid they were stuck in the same room for more than two minutes. Kate truly had never seen Yelena excuse herself from a situation faster than those moments. She hadn't even been sleeping in their shared room. Kate assumed Yelena had been sleeping in Sonya's hospital room but when she went walking down the hall late one night when she couldn't sleep, she saw Yelena had been curled up in Sonya's regular bunk sound asleep. That hurt Kate more than she should've let it. Kate fucked up and she knew it. She wanted to make things right but Yelena had to give her an inch so she could start groveling.
Natasha had taken the top bunk in the room meant for Kate and Yelena. The archer wasn't sure how she felt about it. Natasha had just as shitty of a sleep schedule as her sister but unlike Yelena, when Nat fell asleep she was a deep sleeper and also talked in her sleep. Kate thought it was funny at first and recorded it a few times for Peter and Cassie if she ever snapped out of her whatever was going on with her. Then one night Kate was woken up by Natasha standing next to her bed, speaking in full Russian with a dagger under her chin. Kate was just happy she hadn't actually pissed her pants and was glad when Natasha dropped her hand and climbed back in her bed like nothing had happened. After that, she was a little more vigilant about listening for the red head throughout the night. No, the sisters weren't the easiest people to sleep around but Kate was managing even though she missed her personal Russian weighted blanket. Okay, she definitely hadn't slept well the past ten days. Today, she would talk to Yelena today.
Of course that would be easier to accomplish if she knew where the blonde snuck off to during the day. Natasha would wake up early to go to the gym and Kate was sure that Yelena hadn't been keeping her early morning gym schedule because as much as she wasn't talking to Kate, she was talking to her sister even less. Mid afternoon she finally felt motivated to get out of her bed after doom scrolling for hours. Life really was boring without a mission or purpose. "Probably too late for breakfast and lunch. Damn it, Bishop," she sighed and rolled out of bed. Laying around and feeling sorry for herself wasn't going to solve anything.
Kate stopped in front of the mirror and groaned at what she saw. Okay, so she also hadn't showered in a few days. "I need to do something about this," she tried to run her fingers through her hair. She sniffed her armpit, "not the worst offense but not good." She shrugged and reached for her deodorant. "Good enough," she took her tank top off and quickly got dressed in her sports bra with an oversized hoodie. She kept on her basketball shorts that she slept in. She considered just door dashing some food so she didn't have to go out and see anyone. "This is the picture of depression," she came to the conclusion after examining herself once again in the mirror. She needed to try to work things out with Yelena soon or else snap out of her own bullshit. Kate was just about to give in and just order some food when she saw Peter standing outside her door getting ready to knock.
"Just come in."
Peter nodded and the door slid open, "I didn't want to bother you." He looked worried. Kate hated that he looked worried, "I just haven't seen you around the past week. After all the debriefs and the meetings with Melina to discuss the upcoming widow missions, you've been like the Sasquatch around the compound."
"Fat and hairy?"
"I was thinking more like elusive and hard to find though," he looked at her ratty hair, "maybe I'll get you a brush for your birthday. It's coming up right?"
"I'm not celebrating this year."
"Oh come on," Peter sat himself down on her unmade bed. "We missed it last year because well you know. We can't miss it two years in a row."
