*The week of Thanksgiving- one month until the wedding*

Everything had finally seemed to be settling into the regular routine that Yelena had grown very fond of when they first moved to Ohio. She appreciated the normalcy of everyday mundane tasks. Yelena would get up early to feed all of the animals then head over to either work on Natasha's house with the contractors or do work in the barn. She had only been called on one mission since being back and it was a level four Widow that she had to attend to. She made sure the mission took less than 48 hours only enlisting the help of her mother and sister. Natasha had referred to it as a girls weekend from hell which earned her a slap on the back of the head from Melina.

Yelena was happy that everything went as planned leaving the majority of the rescues up to her sister to lead with the help of their team as needed.

With the rescues being taken care of, Yelena had more time to help Kate Bishop plan the wedding. After the day spent dress shopping, she realized just how stressful wedding planning must be for her partner so she stepped up where she could. This didn't mean she wanted to sit and pick out linen and dish arrangements. She even offered to cook all of the food to which Kate said, "are you crazy?" Yelena assumed that was not an option. She found something else to occupy her time while Kate was working on both the wedding details and preparing for the Gala both in Ohio via zoom and in NYC with Jack.

The wedding invitations had been sent and the RSVPs were already received. It was destined to be a small event but memorable nonetheless.
They had originally agreed to hire tents for the wedding and get big outside furnaces. Yelena had told Kate that she would take care of this but after speaking with her father, they decided to go a different way.

Alexei and Melina had a second barn on their property which was a little older and did not currently house any animals. She and her father had been outside clearing the yard of Halloween decorations when Yelena went inside and looked around. She could picture it perfectly set up for a wedding. Sure the building needed to be painted and the bench seats would need to be built but it would be beautiful with decorations. "Papa," Yelena approached her dad, "want to help me make this into the wedding venue?"

"I got some time."

"I told Kate I would book a tent and furnaces. So maybe don't mention this to her."

Alexei seemed to consider the ask, "i build excellent furniture. But lying to Kate Bishop? Is this not what you punished her for for so many months?"

"Dad," Yelena scoffed, "I hardly think lying about building a wedding venture is even on the same line as lying about leaving the planet."

"A lie is a lie, Malyshka."

"Okay then it won't be a lie. It'll be a surprise. Like a wedding gift from me to Kate. Plus, it's saving money. DIY or whatever they say."

Alexei thought it over some more, "I like this diy but I still do not think you should lie to Kate."

Yelena sighed, "okay I will do this alone. Pretend I did not ask. You know nothing." She mumbled, "that should be easy for you."

"No. I will help you. I am excellent liar." When he saw his daughter roll her eyes he corrected himself, "I do not mean liar. Truth teller. Except this is a surprise for Kate Bishop."

"Perfect," Yelena clapped her hands together, not totally confident that Alexei wouldn't turn her in. "We can start tomorrow. Go to the lumbar yard. Get some wood stain, paint. Whatever else we might need."

That had been about a month ago and surprisingly Alexei hadn't spilled the beans yet. Yelena couldn't believe the progress they had made inside of the old barn. It was looking more and more like a wedding venue everyday. They even enlisted the help of some of the rescued widows to help. Alexei even surprised Yelena by fixing up the rotting wood on the outside of the barn and getting a few people to paint it. "Red like red guardian," he smiled when she gave him the biggest hug for his efforts. Thankfully, Melina didn't often go that far back on their property and she was mostly busy with Natasha and the rescues to notice.
