Yelena had been prepping for this surprise party for the last few days and with Natasha's help they had a ridiculously decorated house complete with the macaroni piñata her sister had found at a weird party store in Cleveland. Thankfully Natasha had been preparing the house and back porch for the party. It left time for Yelena to be out working in the stables. She had moved the horses to the second barn and built stalls for them as well as a big pen for the baby that would eventually be put into a stall when she wasn't out in the pasture. The horses had free reign of most of the farm since they had the big fence installed that surrounded their entire property but she thought the little cow needed a small area to acclimate to her surroundings. When Yelena had come in the past few mornings to work, somehow Bella and Lady had made their way into the calf enclosure and she found them all snuggling so it would appear that the cow wasn't missing her mother too much. Bella stepped up as a surrogate making sure the baby wasn't lonely.
Currently, Yelena was hanging up a feeding shelf where she intended to keep the feed so it was up and out of the way of the animals. She heard a tiny moo coming from the ground and it made her chuckle, "finding your voice already? How big you are."
Two more insistent moos came from below, "okay I am finished." Yelena took another moment to reestablish that the structure was really secure in the wall before descending the small step ladder. "Okay needy," she sat down on the bottom rung of the ladder and the cow was immediately in front of her. The baby gave her a small head butt, "your mama should be back today. It's her birthday, you know? First one I've spent with her." The cow mooed, "yes she's going to love you, Noodle. Oh do not get used to that name," she scratched Noodle under her chin, "Kate will pick out a good strong name for you. I just could not give you a number." Yelena thought noodle was a good name for the cream colored highland but she never was good at naming things. "Wait until you meet your mama. She's going to dote over you to the point where you actually consider if she gave birth to you. No sleeping in our house though," Yelena pointed to the pen she crafted, "this is your bed. Kate will try to sneak you in, especially when she finds out how much your Aunty Nat loves you."
Lady came over and neighed in Yelena's face, "do not be jealous. You know I love you, little lady," she ran her hand down Lady's mane. "I bet your mama misses you, too." Lady turned her head over to look at Bella, "no not that mama. The other more annoying, human, mama. You know the one who buys your bags of apples." Lady flicked her ear, "I said the magic word." Yelena got up and walked over to the bin where she put the feed and snacks. When there was another moo she picked up the box and turned back, "I think you are too young for an apple. I do not even know if cows eat apples. I will google." Yelena put everything from the bin onto her newly crafted shelf. It was just a little too tall for her to reach so she needed to use the step ladder. If she could reach it then Bella could reach it. Lady neighed once more in protest, "okay. I hear you. Look," she tilted the bin. "It's empty. I'm all done," she threw the bin in the opposite direction trying not to startle the babies. Yelena grabbed two apples and came back down the ladder, pulling her switchblade from her thigh holster. Before she cut into either piece of fruit she quickly searched google, "good news, Noodle. You can have apples in moderation."
Natasha walked into the bar coming in to see her sister sitting on a small bench, slicing pieces of apple and taking turns feeding the calf and foal. She snapped a quick picture to share with her soon to be sister in law once everything settled down and approached the scene, "hey, Russian Doctor Doo Little."
Yelena looked up at her, "I do not get this reference."
"It'll take too long to explain. Trust me. It was funny," she chuckled at her own joke.
"What do you want Natasha? I am very busy out here and if I am not mistaken you are supposed to be helping mama make the variety of Mac and Cheese."
"Alexei is helping."
