Chapter 26

A/N: Sorry for not posting yesterday, I wrote the chapter than just fell asleep before I was able to post it.

Sophie crouched on a windowsill in the shadows staring out at the growing crowd waiting for the councilors to show up with their announcement. Waiting for her cue to reveal everything.

The past weeks had flown by. Gethen set the date for the reveal that Sophie had joined the Neverseen and Sophie had done everything she could to prepare. Whether it was athletic, talents, or abilities she trained for most hours of the day. She would break at meals and meet with Gethen for an hour or two after lunch. At night she would teleport to the Shores of Solace and fall asleep wrapped in Keefe's arms.

It was amazing. Now, it was finally time to prove that she was ready.

The Black Swan had finally let slip that she was missing and everyone had panicked, apparently she was either too crucial to everything to be missed or she was too dangerous to be on the loose. She rolled her eyes at the thought. Keefe was her inside source on everything. Even though people knew he was married to her, he claimed ignorance and people somehow believed him.

Sophie shook her head, clearing her thoughts and focusing on the scene unfolding in front of her. From her spot in the shade, the bright sparkly city of Eternalia was almost blinding and she focused on everything that wasn't one of the colorful buildings, which meant look at the people coming in. She spotted all her friends, or people who used to be her friends because she was pretty sure they weren't fans of her anymore.

Fitz definitely wasn't, she could see his glare from her vantage point. Surveying her other friends she saw various emotions. Linh looked sad; she clearly wasn't believing the rumors that she was evil and thought she was missing. Biana looked angry like Fitz, but she couldn't tell if it was anger at her or just at the situation. Mr. Forkle was in his Magnate Leto disguise and looked extremely stressed, it brought a smile to her face. She knew he was freaking out and she loved it. Tam looked bored, but after knowing him for as long as she did Sophie knew Tam was on high alert, like he felt something.

Sophie slunk further into the darkness, "Did you really think going further into shadows would keep you further hidden from me?" Tam's voice filled her mind as he shadow whispered to her.

Yes?

"Seriously, I'm taken captive by the Neverseen for a couple weeks and this is what I come back to?"

Hey! You have no idea what's going on. She responded, offended that he thought he knew everything.

"Yeah, but I think I'm the only one to pick up on the completely obvious thing between you and Keefe."

It's only obvious because we got married. Also you should thank him for getting you out of the Neverseen.

"Yes, yes, don't you know Linh well enough to know she already forced me to do that. Also, I can't believe you and Keefe worked out the feelings that you guys have had since I don't know how long."

Sophie rubbed her face, I get it okay, I was oblivious. Would you like me to talk about you and Biana?

He was quiet for a moment, "Good point. How about a truce, we can talk about our love lives later, I have other more important stuff to talk to you about."

Deal.

"So, since you're hiding out I'm guessing you're going to make your big reveal, which I'm guessing is that you're joining the Neverseen."

How'd you know that?

"I have contacts on the inside," Tam sounded a little sad about that.

Glimmer?

"Yeah, I've heard you and her have been getting pretty close."

Eh, more or less. I'm probably closer to Ruy than her. There was silence for a moment, What do you make of them?

"I couldn't see it at first, but they really care for each other," Sophie could hear the smile in his voice. He was happy for his friend.

Well, I have some more surveilling to do. You should come to the Neverseen base at some point. I know you don't have the best memories, but it's different now and I think Glimmer would be happy to have more friends and Ruy would be happy to have some more down to earth people. He's pretty fed up with Keefe by now.

"Ok," He was quiet and for a second Sophie thought that was it, until he continued, "I know mostly everyone hates you right now, but I want you to know that I'm on your side. Good luck."

Thanks. She cut the conversation off and scanned the rest of the crowd.

She glanced at Keefe who rubbed his eye with his ring finger, the wedding band twinkling in the light, and when he pulled his hand away looked right at Sophie and winked. Sophie was about to wink back when the councilors fanfare started and she was forced to look away.

The councilors glittered on to the stage, their goblin guards joined, stationing themselves behind them. Emery stepped out to the front of the stage, "Hello everyone, I know you have all heard the rumors about Sophie Foster, the Moonlark, disappearing. We are here to clarify everything,"

Everyone started muttering, causing Emery to pause for a second and Sophie to take that as her cue. She sprang up from her spot and ran and jumped onto the roof behind the stage, "Maybe I can help explain!" She yelled over the muttering. Everyone's heads turned to look at her and Sophie grinned, This is going to be so fun!

Sophie pulled the hood off her head, and gasps broke out, "Yes, yes it's me. Now, if everyone would shut up, maybe they could get information." People quieted down quickly, clearly shocked that she had said that. "So I'm sure everyone has heard the rumor that I've joined the Neverseen, and I'm here to inform you that it's true. And, I have a special announcement for all of you. Something only a select few know," she waited for the whispers to die down, "my real biological father is Gethen,"

Shouts broke out even the councillors started whispering, although Sophie saw Oralie glance up at her nervously. In this reality she didn't have the reveal with her mom, so the fear on Oralie's face when she winked at her was even better. Then, Sophie started laughing, louder and louder until people quieted down, "And to anyone that doubts my power, doubts who I am, don't forget..." she raised her arms, "I'm the Moonlark!"

She flung her head back and unleashed her powers. Red exploded from her body hitting the crowd and causing them to crumple to the ground. The sky changed colors and all of the buildings glowed scarlet. Sophie grinned, making eye contact with Keefe who was unaffected and smirking at her. Sophie laughed maniacally before opening a portal and jumping through.
