Origins: This dog was bred in 19th century for herding Cattle in Australia. They were made with tame dingos.

Coat: Short and dense weather-resistant fur. It is double layered and sheds.
Colors: Blue, blue mottled, blue speckled, red mottled, red speckled. They also commonly have some white, black and tan colors mixed in.
Tail: Long
Ears: Typically pointy or semi-pricked. Some may be rose shaped.
Health: Usually healthy, but prone to hip dysplasia, kneecap dislocation, heart conditions, eye/vision issues, hearing impairments, dental problems,
Barking: They usually only bark to alert. Some of them may have an intimating, high-pitched bark, showing their teeth.
Environment: This dog needs plenty of toys, a space to run around, and socialization. Apartments and condos are not suitable homes for them.
Popularity: Somewhat common. In 2023, the Australian Cattle Dog was ranked number 52 on the American Kennel Club's most popular dog list.
Family Friendly? Yes, this dog if suitable for active families with children who are nine years of age or older. Due to their herding instincts, they may not be fit for households with kids any younger. They have been known to form a close bond with a singular person rather than everyone.
Temperament: Brave, loyal, obedient, protective, energetic, cautious, and smart
Training: Somewhat difficult due to their independence and high energy levels. However, Australian Cattle Dogs are usually fast learners. Owners should also be aware that this breed is prone to show nipping and biting behaviors, but proper training can help.
Care: This dog needs daily exercise and mental stimulation. They do best when having a job. They need regular fur brushing, teeth brushing, and ear cleaning. Due to their weather-resistant coat, they only need to be bathed a couple times a year or when necessary. Owners should only leave them alone for 4-6 hours at a time because they may become stressed and destructive.
