Chapter 28: Waking Up in a Hospital

Hayes

I sat on the couch, waiting for the text from Nash. I shouldn't have let her jump. Everyone was at the hospital, and I decided it was best for me not to be there, she was already going through enough pain. After the accident, she blacked out and was taken to the hospital. She hasn't woken up for 16 hours. I'd say I wasn't worried, but I'd be lying through my teeth. I jumped as my phone vibrated.

Nash: She's awake. Are you sure you don't want to come over? I can pick you up.

Me: No, it's fine. Just send pictures.

I wanted to go so badly. But honestly, I owe it to her not to come, I'm sure she didn't want to see my face anyways.

Lacey

I opened my eyes to see a bright light. I heard my friends' voices and then everything that had happened came back.

"Good morning." Nash smiled, realizing I had woken up. I smiled back at him. I looked around to see my mom, Addison and Gabby, and Nash, but no Hayes. I frowned for a split second, but then remembered everyone was looking at me.

"Sweetie are you feeling okay?" My mom said as I nodded. I looked down to see my foot in a cast.

"How long." I said, looking at it.

"I'm sorry Lacey. But you'll have to wear it for 6 weeks." My mother said as I could feel tears coming down my face.

"Th- that means. I can't dance or cheer for 6 weeks. And I- I'll have to wear crutches at school." I said, crying.

"It'll all be okay. I promise." Nash said as I cried.

"I'll get you some food, okay?" My mom said, getting up.

"We'll go help." Gabby smiled as the three of them left, leaving silence in the room.

"Why didn't he come?" I said, staring straight ahead at me.

"I don't know Lace. He probably thinks that he's hurting you by being here. That he's put you through enough pain." Nash said as I looked down. I was sure he hated me. How could I face him at school? On the walk to and from school? I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the door open. Appeared my mother and my two best friends.

"Oh thank god I was beginning to worry you would never bring it." I smiled, taking the tray.

"You have a cast on your leg and you're  worried about not getting food?" Addison laughed as I stuck my tongue out at her.

I finally finished my food as Addison and Gabby had to leave, they had their things to do too. My mom had gone somewhere in the hospital to talk to the doctor about my crutches and what I could do and not do.

"Bye Lace, get better." Gabby said to me, giving me a hug.

"Bye Nash." She waved as he waved back.

"Bye Lacey, we're totally doing movie night when you get back to the homestead." She whispered to me as I laughed.

"I'm counting on it." I said as she gave me a hug.

"Bye babe." She said to Nash, giving him a hug.

"See you later." He said as they left. My attention was on the tv until I heard Nash slurping apple sauce.

"You don't have to stay." I smiled at him. He'd been here since the accident actually happened. He looked at me and smiled, apple sauce surrounding his face. I laughed at him as he cleaned his far with his tongue.

"I'm staying as long as I want to. And plus I can't leave my real-fake-little-sister-best-friend at the hospital." He said, making me laugh.

"Well thank you real-fake-big-brother-best-friend." I said as he put his hand on my arm.

"Anything for you real-fake-little-sister-best-friend." He said as we both continued watching TV.
