LEENA

"You, back there."

At the sound of the voice, I stir from my sleep. Tiredly raising my head from off of my desk, I yawn. I must've fallen asleep at some point during the book analysis we were going over.

I had barely gotten any rest. I was up all night finishing a project for one of my classes and now I was suffering the consequences of trying to function off of five hours of sleep.

Hibernation didn't sound like a bad idea right about now.

"Who, me?" I point at myself, hoping that she had meant somebody else.

"Yes, you. What do you think?" She asks, unamused by catching me asleep.

"It won't happen again, I'm sorry." My words cause a scowl to appear on Ms. Smith's face. With a long sigh, she mumbles something along the lines of hating her job before speaking. "Please don't make it a habit of falling asleep during class."

After she directed her attention to another student, I sighed in relief.

It was halfway through the school day and I already felt like going home. I hadn't eaten anything since this morning and lunch was around the corner, so I was happy about that. Although the thought of spending lunchtime alone chased the happiness away.

Lilith hadn't shown up to school today, which worried me. I texted her asking if everything was okay but she had brushed me off, telling me that she wasn't feeling well.

When I proceeded to tell her I'd stop by after school, she quickly replied, telling me that there was no need.

Reyna had spoken to me earlier at my locker and told me that she'd be busy making up for a test, which meant that she'd be skipping lunch. That left me all alone.

I never used to care about being alone, but now I did.

I also hadn't seen or spoken to Angel since Monday and it was now Friday. He never ate in the cafeteria during lunch time and we obviously didn't have any classes together, but still. I'd half expected to run into him in the hallways but even then I had no luck.

On top of that, I tried texting and calling him. Neither of them were answered.

It was like he was avoiding me.

Had I done something wrong? Was that why he abruptly stopped talking to me? Because if I did, he needed to say something. I couldn't deal with him being upset with me.

Whatever it was, I just hoped that he was okay. That's all that mattered to me.

After class ends, I'm heading over to the cafeteria. Once I've gotten my tray of food, I find an empty table and begin to eat in silence.

It wasn't until Mitch lowered himself onto the seat across from me that I looked up from my tray.

"Hey," he briefly greets me, his attention seeming to be elsewhere. He looked exhausted, which I found strange since he was usually energetic most of the time.
