LEENA

"So, you guys want to know why you're here, right?" Lilith asks, and Reyna and I roll our eyes for the fifth time tonight.

She had texted us both earlier during the day to meet her at the park. That's really all she said, and it was starting to get on my nerves because she kept sidetracking.

I knew that she called us here for a reason, but she kept spouting nonsense about Mitch. Mitch this, Mitch that... gosh.

I care about them, I truly do. But listening to Lilith go on about how Mitch gave her flowers for the fourth time this week was downright absurd.

I know that she's practically obsessed with the guy, but damn. And believe me, it's clear that he's just as obsessed with her, if not more.

A couple of weeks have passed since I last stayed at Angel's place. Since then, he's returned to school, and his father has been discharged from the hospital. Winter break is also around the corner and I can't wait to finally catch up on sleep.

If there's one thing that I've noticed, it's that we've grown closer. I mean, we text each other almost every day now. Sometimes I even end up losing sleep because I stay up all night talking to him.

It's crazy, I know.

At first he wasn't engaging in the conversations as much, but I guess I've grew on him. He's the one to initiate them now, unlike before.

Leave me alone, my ass.

I believe his decision to enroll his dad in therapy has had a significant impact on his overall mood—and for the better.

The redhead beside me mutters impatiently, her tone sharp. "Lilith, just hurry up and get to the point."

I nod, agreeing with her. We were on the swing set and I was getting sick of swinging back and forth in order to entertain myself.

"Alright, alright. Jeez," Lilith says hurriedly, then continues. "So... remember when I told you guys that I wasn't feeling well all those weeks ago?"

At the nod of our heads, she takes it as a sign to go on. "Well, something happened." I give her an unamused look. Is she serious? I thought that this was already established. She wasn't exactly good at hiding things.

"Go on," Reyna urges her, and I wait, growing impatient.

Lilith exhales, running a hand through her blonde hair before speaking again. "The day before I missed school, I saw something."

I perk up at her words. "What did you see?"

"A ghost," she replies, adding a dramatic shiver for effect. Reyna's eyes narrow. "Would you quit fucking playing and tell us?"

Although Reyna was annoyed, I couldn't help but laugh. She had me there.

The blonde takes a deep breath. "So, I kinda, maybe sorta saw my dad cheat, and maybe my mom saw it too." She rushes through the words, as if a heavy burden has finally been lifted from her shoulders.
