LEENA

Throughout the weekend I had texted Lilith, making sure that she was okay and constantly asking her if she wanted me to stop by. She said no every time, but it was still worth a shot.

I still hadn't heard anything from Angel and I really did hope that he was okay, but my worries were more aimed towards a certain blonde.

Monday rolled around quickly and for the first time since Friday, I spotted Lilith at her locker, picking up her usual things for class.

I speed walk over to her, anxiousness drowning every bone in my body.

I stand in silence for a moment, noticing how she's lost in thought and has yet to notice me. "Hey Lilith."

She's thrown out of her thoughts at my voice and her head turns, giving me a glimpse of her face. It looked like she had been crying. Her eyes were red and her eyelids looked puffier than normal. Concern etched its way onto my face at the sight.

"What's wrong?" I move closer to inspect her but she turns her head away, her gaze moving back to the interior of her locker.

Lilith clears her throat, grabbing whatever else she needed before shutting her locker. "I wasn't feeling well, remember?" She adds a bit of cheerfulness to her voice, but it's obvious that it's forced.

I frown. "Mitch told me-" she cuts me off, turning to face me once again with a look of indifference on her face. "Whatever Mitch told you, you should know that his mother is nothing but a cheating bitch." Her words are laced with venom and it surprises me.

She never cursed before.

"Why, what happened?" I ask, staring at her expectantly and waiting for an answer. She shakes her head, coming down from her fit of rage and realizing what she had just said.

"I take it back," she whispers to herself. "My pathetic excuse of a father is the one to blame for all of this, not him." A look of guilt appears onto her face and before I can ask any more questions, she's giving me a hug. "I'm sorry, Leena. I know that you're worried about me but I'll be fine. Thanks for being a good friend." She pulls back, mustering up a smile.

I watch as her figure disappears down the hallway and I sigh. Well, at least she wasn't ignoring me, that much I could settle for.

***

I spot Angel walking down the sidewalk and I run after him.

School was now over and students were filing out of the building so it was hard to find him in the sea of people. Thankfully, I found him.

"You can't avoid me forever, you know that right?" I come to a halt, completely out of breath but managing to speak the words that pull him to a stop.

I watch him from behind, waiting for him to turn around or to speak, but he only continues his journey down the sidewalk.

I move to block him, looking up at his face. His jaw was clenched and he was staring ahead, not even bothering to look down at me. Seriously, what was going on with him?

"Why haven't you been answering my calls or texts? Do you know how worried I was? I had to go as far as asking your friend just to know if you were doing okay." My frustration is clear and that causes him to finally look down at me.

"Leena, move." His eyes connect with mine and I have no choice but to oblige. Eye contact was my weakness.

"Will you at least tell me why you're ignoring me?" I plead, moving to catch up with his long strides. "Whatever it is, I'll fix it. I swear."

Having enough of my words, he turns to face me, his expression faltering for a brief moment. "You did nothing wrong, so stop."

My brows furrow in confusion. Then why was he ignoring me? Surely I did something to piss him off if he wasn't talking to me anymore. "Then what is it?" I ask, taking a step towards him. I wasn't going to let him leave until he told me what was wrong.

"You're not the problem," he sighs, running a hand through his hair. "I am."

What?

What was that supposed to mean? "Why would you be the problem-" he cuts me off.

"You said you wanted to fix things, right?" He pauses before continuing. "Leave me alone, please." His words feel forced, as if it's taking every part in his body to utter the sentence that will only split us further apart.

My hands tighten into fists at my sides. "Fine," I mutter, not in any way happy about what he had asked me to do. My fists drop and I sigh.

My eyes flicker between his for a while until I speak. "Whatever it is, just know that I'm here. You don't have to hide anything from me, Angel. I won't judge."

His eyes soften at my words and it looks for a second like he's going to speak but ultimately decides against it.

After a few moments, he walks away, and I'm left to watch his figure disappear down the sidewalk. I was beyond confused and he wasn't talking to me.

He said that I wasn't the problem but I felt like I was. Why else would he be ignoring me?

After standing there for a while, I head in the direction of my car, wanting to go home for the day and pass out on my bed. The idea put me at ease.

As I'm walking through the maze of cars in the parking lot, my peripheral vision catches movement from inside one of the cars I'm walking past.

I couldn't help but glance back, my nosy nature striking once again. Although the scene before me catches me off guard and fills me with surprise.

From where I was standing, I could see Reyna in the driver's seat. However, her back was to me and the seat was reclined.

It looked like she was on top of someone but I couldn't see who it was. All I could see through the windshield was her, so curiously, I move a bit closer.

Now at a closer distance and at an angle that gives me a view of the person underneath her, shock roots me to my spot.

Matt's hand caresses her face as they exchange a heated kiss, his other hand placed on her hip. If it weren't for Matt noticing me, God knows what else I could've witnessed. A shiver rakes through my body at the thought.

He freezes after a moment and Reyna notices, pulling back in search of whatever had his attention, which was my shocked ass.

Her eyes connect with mine and I watch as her lips mutter something along the lines of 'oh shit' before freezing in her spot on Matt's lap.

Oh shit indeed.

And so the plot thickens

This was the surprise that I was talking about earlier by the way if you haven't figured it out yet 😹

I feel like there's so much going on but I don't want to write boring filler chapters right now and I want to keep you guys entertained

Anyways, until next time!!
