A/N 1: trigger warning: mentions of kidnapping throughout the story. If this topic triggers you, I would definitely not recommend you read this.

Y/N POV:

I'm getting ready to go to bed when I suddenly get a call from an unknown number, a confused look on my face as I answer the call hesitantly. I greet the stranger on the other line nervously. The voice on the other end is a bit muffled, but I can mostly make out a frantic tone of their voice.

"Hello, is this Y/N?"

"Yes, it's me. Why?"

"I'm so sorry to bother you at 11:30 at night, but I'm in a bit of a predicament..."

This is so weird.

"Hold up, how did you get my number?"

"That doesn't matter. I don't have time to explain."

I decide not to press the issue, sighing under my breath.

"Alright, alright. What's going on?"

The person on the other end sighs in relief, their voice coming out hurriedly.

"I'm at a friend's house, and there's someone here who... I don't know who he is, but– he's not right. He's been acting strange all night, and I'm really scared."

My eyes widen with surprise at the explanation.

"Is there anything I can do to help?"

My tendency to drop everything to help someone takes control as I ignore what could possibly happen to me in this situation. The voice on the other end hesitates before speaking again.

"Could you... could you maybe come over here, Y/N? I don't know what this guy is capable of, and I feel nervous being alone with him."

The line goes silent for a moment before they speak again in a fervent whisper.

"Please, just hurry..."

I hesitantly agree, standing up and putting my shoes & jacket on.

"Where are you? You know what, nevermind. Text me your location."

I end the call to go to their location & help. I hurry into my car and type the location into my gps. Once the directions pop up on my screen, I begin to follow the directions on the screen.

~*time skip*~

I continue to drive through the dark, winding streets, my mind fixed on the desperate situation I've somehow been pulled into. The gps starts occasionally glitching, making me groan in annoyance. I try to keep on the original directions, focused on getting to the stranger's location to help them.

"I don't need to worry about the glitching. My phone's just old. I should've expected it to glitch like this."

I eventually realize that it's not going to work properly, so I turn the gps off and try to rely on my memory of the original directions to get to the location.

Instead of arriving at the stranger's house, though, I find myself driving down a foreign, deserted road, lined with dense & gnarled trees. I realize I'm lost and I sigh to myself, running my fingers through my hair. I see the late time and decide to give up on trying to help. I open my phone to call the stranger and explain my situation, searching through my call history to find the call.

I eventually find the call, calling the stranger back. after a few rings, the stranger's phone goes to voicemail. I go to send a message to them to apologize to them for not being able to help, but I notice that they already sent a message to me first. The message only says, 'too late. don't come. I'm sorry.' My expression turns concerned at the cryptic message.
