Seven years
I was in contact with my family but I have never seen them in that time frame. So many enemies and so it was never safe enough to even think to bring hope back to them.
Even now the only person I was talking to was Haley who was pissed at me for not dropping everything to come help them. My siblings were in a deep sleep and she needed help waking them. The magic used was unfamiliar to me yet Haley believed I could help somehow. I couldn't bring myself to get angry with her considering she didn't know I had her daughter with me but I was not dripping a dime to go and help them. They were alive, sleep but alive. It was not a good situation to bring my niece home to. The fact they were still in New Orleans or close by in Haley's situation when nothing good has come from it thus far.
"Haley, I understand your frustration, they are my family but what I'm doing here, I cannot put in harms way. You all would never forgive me if I did" the line went silent before finally ending. One day she would understand but not today.
"Uncle hen!" Glancing up at the school I watched as Hope ran out of the building waving her little arms wildly. She had the biggest smile on her face as she hugged me"I won the spelling bee, Ms.Robert said I was the best "
"Oh really, the best of the best. I got a little genius on my hands" smiling I propped her up on my hip turning and walking to the car.
"I think my little genius deserves some ice cream " if her smile could get even wider it would. Her eyes were practically twinkling with how excited she was at the mere mention of ice cream
"I want fudge Sunday with Oreo sprinkles" she waisted no time in listing off what she wanted. It was always something with chocolate
Getting into the car i instantly drove to the ice cream parlor and lead her inside.
"Hi, how may I help you?" The cashier stood at the counter wearing a forced smile I knew too well.
"Hi Carly" greeting her briefly I turned to Hope"tell her what you want"
Hope blushed a bit, she always got a bit shy when talking to others "can I have a fudge sundae with Oreo sprinkled on top please" smiling I kissed her on the head
"Good job " i praised glancing at carly "add a chocolate shake"
Nodding along carly put the order in, took my money then disappeared in the back. I knew she didn't like me after I rejected her advances. I tried to be nice about it yet she still seemed to resent me.
It didn't take long for her to bring out our order and we took a seat in a booth"uncle Hen?"
Letting out a hum I turned to Hope watching how she fidgeted under my gaze" something feels wrong"
Frowning I glanced towards her bracket that restricted her magic before glancing around the shop. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and her bracelet was in tact as well.
"What do you mean?" It could be nothing but then again witches could always get feelings. Mainly it was dead witches or your magic warning you or something. I felt nothing but that didn't mean Hope didn't feel anything off
"I get this feeling like something bad is going to happen and it's scary. " Hope was in tears now looking up from her sundae. Just before I could respond my phone when off with a message.
Glancing towards it half expecting it to be Haley I froze. It was a supernatural hit list from an unknown number and at the very top was his name and hopes.
Someone knew she was alive
Someone knew I had her
Hunters would come for us and that was just something I couldn't afford right. I had to figure out a way to get us off this list as well as keep her safe
It was time to disappear
