Auld Acquaintance

The team and I were chilling in the cave and after yesterday's victory it was well deserved. Even with Lex Luther and Queen Bees escape, we still did a good job. There was one thing despite the win, someone was still getting intel on us and now that we knew it wasn't anyone on the team, there was more trust among us. Robin and I were sitting on the sofa watching some videos on my phone when Batman called us to the briefing area.

Batman and Red Tornado stood waiting for us as we entered the room. "The mole was Red Arrow." Batman said before displaying his picture on the holographic monitor.

"Roy?" "No way!" We said in disbelief. "Batman, that cannot be. He was Green Arrows protege. We've all known him for years." Aqualad defended. Sure Roy was hotheaded at times but he wasn't the mole. He couldn't be.

"Unfortunately, the Roy Harper we have known for the last three years is another 'Project Cadmus' clone." Red Tornado explained.

"We learned the real Speedy was abducted immediately after becoming Green Areows sidekick." Batman continued. "The clone was pre-programmed with a drive to join the Justice League which is why he was angry over any delays to his admission and why he refused to join The Team. This Roy Harper had no idea he was a clone or a traitor. So he struck out on his own as Red Arrow. When he was finally admitted his secondary programming kicked in and he attempted to betray the League to Vandal Savage. Fortunately, I had already deduced Red Arrow was a clone. We were prepared."

"Savage was subdued but Red Arrow escaped. He is now a fugitive, armed and dangerous." Red concluded.

"What happened to the real Roy?" Robin asked.

"We don't know. He isn't at Cadmus." His voice coming off rough but it hid something. "We have to face the possibility that the real Roy Harper is dead."

I felt a pang in my chest when he said this. Roy...dead. Hearing that was hard to say the least. I felt a hand on my shoulder, I turned to see Conner giving me a sympathetic look. I turned back to Batman, "The team will find the clone Roy."I said.

"Negative. Red arrows a member of the Justice League now. Leave him to us." Batman said before he got an incoming call on his comm. "I'm needed on the Watchtower. Tornado, stay with the kids."

The automated voice of the Zeta tube announced his departure. "Clone or no clone. Red Arrow was one of us. We will go after him." Aqualad said looking at us. I gave a slightly nod. A static rang from Red Tornado before he shut down suddenly.

We stepped forward to investigate. "Tornado! What happened to him?" M'gann asked, a look of concern etched on her face.

Robin started running diagnostics on him. "He's totally powered down." Wally stated.

"All functions offline." Robin informed.

"Guys, I'm sensing a low-level mystic force at play." Zatanna said before dropping her hands from her temples. "I-I don't know if it caused his shutdown. But now that I think about it I was getting the same buzz off Batman."

Robin raised his head, "Batman. He called us kids. He never does that."

I noticed a fragment of something hanging between Tornado's fingers. I reached out for it and examined it. "Guys, it's those biotech chips we took from Cheshire."

"Something is not right." Aqualad said. "Robin, Kid, Zatanna, Rocket se if you can get Tornado back online. The rest with me to find Ro- Red Arrow."

Before I could follow behind my group I felt a hand grab my wrist. "Hey. Be careful." Robin said. The look in his eyes was one of worry and adoration.
