Endgame

An ear piecing scream cut through Dick and I intimate activities and pulled us out of the little bubble we'd created. The scream was followed by a number of people screaming in the streets and running from something. Dick and I gave each other a look. "One day. Just one day." I said throwing my head back.

"I know." He kissed my neck again before getting off me and helping me off the bed."Unfortunately hero work never ends." I nodded and went to check the window. Dark cloud just started rapidly spreading in the sky, plunging the once sunny day into a gloomy darkness. "So much for the perfect sunny day."

The Watchtower
June 20, 8:50 EDT

Dick and I zeta'd to the Watchtower as soon as we could to see what the heck was going on. Turns out this wasn't just a Gotham specific occurrence as these sudden natural disasters were happening all around the world.

"The natural disasters have escalated." Captain Atom informed. We stood before the hologram screens showing every location being hit. "The rest of the League is spread thin saving lives across the globe."

"It's Black Beetle's MFD's." Blue said. "The Magnetic Field Disrupters the Reach seeded at multiple locations across the Earth. They're causing a deterioration of the planets magnetic field which in turn causing these not-so natural disasters. I can locate all the MFD's but each is defended by Beetle-tech Drones programmed to run interference until the MFD can build enough steam to go chrysalis and end the world." Blue said as he played a simulation of the event.

"How do we shut them down?" I asked.

"I don't know. Because Black Beetle's didn't know." He said. I could feel the despair filling the room. "There's no failsafe. This was an endgame."

"Inciming transmission from United Nations Secretary General Tseng Dangun." The automated voice announced suddenly. We turned back to the screen to see Lex Luther at the forefront. "Luther, what are you—"

"Secretary Tseng was kind enough to let me borrow his frequency as I have a possible solution to our mural problem." Luther said.

The Atom scoffed. "A problem caused by the Light when they collaborated to bring the Reacg to Earth."

"Perhaps, but as I believe you know the Light always planned to betray the Reach." Luther held up a flash drive. "Lexcorp has developed anti-Reach software. A virus that should disable their Magnetic Field Disrupters. Now, I believe time is of the essence."

Luther didn't give much explanation as to how we were gonna do this, just to meet him down in Metropolis with Blue Beetle so we could stop this. I stepped away for a bit before pulling out my phone and calling mom. We hadn't spoken much since the Summit but I did promise to have dinner with her today. Unfortunately those plans would need to be canceled.

"Come on pick up." I whispered under my breath. The click at the end made me sigh in relief. "Hey mom, I know you wanna know what's going on—"

"Damn right I do. This is a huge story." She said as I heard the shuffling of paper on the other end.

"Mom, I need you to get out of the City ok? Or at least get to a shelter or something. We're working to fix it but I need you safe." I said. Mom stopped what she was doing knowing something no was up.

"This is way more than just a bad case of natural disasters isn't it?"

"Yeah, Alex Luthor has something that will stop it but I don't think I trust him as far as I could throw him." Dick gave me a concerned look from across the room as the Atom, Kaldur and Captain Atom zeta'd to Metropolis. "Be safe. I love you mom." I said in a more serious tone.
