"Oppa! Is your work done yet? I want to go see my baby!" Mrs. Park exclaimed as she paced back and forth in their living room. Her voice carried an urgency that couldn’t be ignored. She had been holding onto this frustration for months now, and today, it finally spilled over.
Dongwook looked up from the laptop he had been glued to for hours, his eyes heavy with fatigue. “Minyoung-ah, we’ll go soon, honey. Just a little longer, okay? I promise,” he said, trying his best to sound reassuring. He truly wanted to take her to see their son, but the responsibilities of work had become an ever-present barrier.
But Minyoung wasn’t in the mood for empty reassurances anymore. “You always say that! Every single time!” Her voice cracked, her anger mixed with an undertone of pain. “Do you even realize how hard this is for me? Jimin has been through so much, and I haven’t even been able to hug him, to tell him everything will be okay.” Tears welled up in her eyes, and she quickly wiped them away, unwilling to let her emotions stop her words.
Dongwook sighed deeply, closing his laptop. He knew she wasn’t just venting. She had every right to feel this way. Months ago, when Jimin discovered that his parents had been aware of the secret of his marriage with Jungkook, Jimin feeling betrayed and hurt, had refused to speak to them for an entire month. During that time, Mrs. Jeon had stepped in, speaking to Jimin on behalf of the Parks and convincing him to hear them out.
When Jimin finally did, his mother had broken down in tears, apologizing repeatedly for that. It had taken time, but Jimin eventually forgave them. Since then, Mrs. Park had been desperate to make up for lost time and assure herself that Jimin was truly okay. But Dongwook’s work commitments kept delaying their plans, and with each passing day, her frustration had grown.
Then came the news of Jimin’s pregnancy—a revelation that had shocked and overwhelmed both parents. Jimin was still so young, and though they were initially angry and worried, they quickly realized they needed to support their son. Now, more than ever, Minyoung felt the need to be there for Jimin, not just as a mother but as a guide through this challenging time.
Dongwook approached her cautiously, sensing the depth of her emotions. “Minyoung-ah, I understand how you feel. Believe me, I do. But I’m doing this for us, for Jimin too. Once this is done, I’ll have more time to—”
“No!” Minyoung interrupted, her voice sharp as she turned to face him. “You don’t understand! I’ve waited long enough, Dongwook. Jimin needs me. He’s carrying a child, and I haven’t even been there for him as a mother! I can’t just sit here anymore.” Her voice wavered as tears began to fall, and she buried her face in her hands.
Dongwook’s heart clenched at the sight. He stepped closer and gently placed his hands on her shoulders. “Minyoung-ah,” he said softly, his voice full of guilt and affection. “You’re right. You’re absolutely right. I’ve been so caught up in work that I’ve neglected what really matters. I’m sorry.” He pulled her into a hug, feeling her sobs shake against his chest. “We’ll go. I promise. Let’s go see our baby.”
Minyoung pulled back slightly, her eyes searching his. “You mean it? You’re not going to put this off again?”
He smiled faintly, brushing a tear from her cheek. “I mean it. Let’s pack our bags.”
But her determination hadn’t wavered. “I was going to go with or without you,” she said with a defiant tilt of her chin.
Dongwook chuckled at her fierce resolve, a small glimmer of warmth spreading through him despite the heavy emotions of the moment. “I know. That’s why I’ll come with you. I don’t want to miss this either, Minyoung-ah. Let’s go see our love.”
