It was the first school day of the new year and Yura was saying goodbye to Mrs. Nishimura. The woman had brought Niki and Yura to school again and Niki said goodbye to his mother too before the two teens made their way to the school, a distance between them because they were in public.
It wasn't that awkward between them since the night of Christmas. Niki actually noticed how Yura wasn't as distant anymore. Maybe a hug and soft touch were all she needed to get back on track? The boy didn't know what was up with her but now that he saw that she wasn't dodging his antics anymore he had hope.
"Hey," Yura was about to go find Yuta when Niki's voice stopped her. She turned to him, raising her eyebrows to indicate that he shall talk.
"Uhm.. Have.. a good day, I guess?" Niki grimaced at his own words. Why was he saying this? Couldn't he have just walked away after they've been dropped off, like he usually did?
"Thank you, I guess?" Yura matched his uncertainty but smiled slightly. She had a feeling that Niki had warmed up to her just like she had to him.
They parted ways and Yura was quick to find her best friend waiting for her just outside of the school entrance.
"Yura!" the boy exclaimed, meeting her halfway and hugging her. They hadn't seen each other in almost three weeks now and that only happened during holidays when everyone was busy. Other than that they were always together.
"How have your holidays been?" the boy asked as they pulled away and walked into the school building.
"They've been good." Yura smiled softly, remembering the small interactions she had with Niki. Christmas, the cuddling, and even the conversations they had even tho Niki was more the one to listen while Yura talked. She noticed how awkward he was at first when she had turned him down from sex but as the weeks went by he seemed to have accepted that they were only talking.
"And yours?" Yura asked her friend.
"They've been great! My uncles and aunties came over for Christmas and also all my grandparents, it was a big celebration!" Yura listened as Yuta rambled on about his holiday. She was glad to not be the to do all the talking after all those weeks.
The duo entered the classroom and their first class began. The teacher talked about the holidays and wished everyone a happy new year first before actually starting her lesson.
Yura wouldn't say that she missed school. Actually the opposite but not only because of school in general, but because she suddenly felt a longing that she didn't have the need to feel over the past weeks. She missed Niki. Yura realized it and gulped. She had seen Niki every day and almost every hour during holidays. She wasn't used to being away from him anymore and not even feeling his presence.
Yura cursed herself for acting so... Obsessed? She wouldn't call it that. But she also didn't want to admit that she maybe grew a bit attached to him.
The girl couldn't concentrate on the class anymore. Niki had been occupying her mind every second and Yura wasn't dumb enough to realize it, but dumb enough to even let it happen. She had fallen for Niki. Her heart beat crazy every time he was close and his touch sent shivers down her spine. She was suppressing her blushing every time he talked to her. Maybe she just wasn't used to him talking kindly with her, but it had been a month since this whole thing started so shouldn't she be alright with all of that now?
The girl was sure of it, she didn't know how or when exactly it happened, but she liked Niki. Very much. It wasn't only hook ups for her anymore, actually it had been a while already that Yura didn't take it as only sex anymore. She wanted to be closer to Niki, get to know him. But it was hard when he wasn't really the talking type.
Yura was sure that Niki knew her whole life story by mow because she talked so much recently. But what could she do, sex wasn't an option because of the bruises, but now that they were as good as gone they'd maybe get back to it. Maybe Niki would open up again then.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Hey, Yura!"
The girl got pulled out of her thoughts at Yuta's hushed whispers. He nudged her with his elbow and looked seriously at her "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm okay." Yura nodded.
"Did anything... With Niki happen?"
Yura was taken back by Yuta's question and frowned. The boy continued talking upon seeing her look.
"You both were home for a while and hooked up before. You told me it was nothing but I know Niki and his reputation, so I just.. Wanted to make sure that he didn't do anything." Yuta shrugged, looking at her and awaiting for her to either tell him everything's okay or nothing's okay.
"What? He-he didn't do anything! Nothing that I didn't want." Yura muttered the last bit Yuta heard it. The girl was shocked that he was asking things like that but at the same time she also understood it, a month ago she would've thought like him. But she got to know Niki better since then, they grew closer. Kind of.
"You hooked up with him again?" Yuta was shocked. She didn't tell him that. Did she seriously sleep with Niki a second time? He couldn't believe that. Yura knew Niki and his reputation better than that.
"Kind of." The girl replied.
Yuta remembered the time he saw Niki and Yura at Niki's party. Niki had the girl on the kitchen counter, his hand between her legs and Yuta remembered how his blood boiled at the sight. He didn't want Yura to get hurt by Niki, physically and emotionally.
"You guys are not... You know?"
"I know?" Yura raised her eyebrows. She didn't want to talk about this with Yuta. It was something between only her and Niki, maybe Niki told Soul about their hook ups but it was different because Soul wouldn't get upset about it when Niki told him. Yuta on the other hand would.
"Do you frequently hook up with this dude?" Yuta got his question out, annoyance already lacing his voice "You know how Niki is, he'll push you aside for the next one within seconds. And he's your stepbrother! You can't do this-"
"Stop it!" Yura whisper yelled with an annoyed frown "We've been hooking up a few times but not much. And I know the whole stepsibling thing but we're not related so it doesn't matter."
"Yura, this is stupid. Don't let him wrap you around his greedy fingers." Yuta gave her a pointed look.
Already happened. "Trust me, everything's okay." the girl said, trying to get him to understand that he shouldn't think so much about her and Niki's relation to another.
"I'm just warning you." Yuta didn't let go of the subject.
"Okay! I get it! Leave it alone now." Yura said annoyed. She didn't know why she was getting so worked up about this but Yuta also wasn't keeping calm, so she guessed that she had every right to get annoyed.
She wished that Yuta would just let her be and don't try to advise her of how she and Niki should be towards each other.
