Niki stood with crossed arms leaning against the wall. The house was buzzing, people walked around and chatted. He knew some of them, like his aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandpas but other than that he could only assume the rest was Yura's family.

The smell of food reached his nose and soon enough his mother called "Dinner's ready!"

Everyone sat down at a large table that Yura's father moved into the dining room for this occasion.
Niki saw his aunt and uncle, including  his grandparents from his mother side. There was no one from his dad's side except for another aunt, which he was glad came because she was his favorite aunt since he was a little kid.

He looked at the rest of people and guessed the one that was talking to Yura's father was her uncle. Then there were her grandparents but other than that no one was there that he didn't know.
He would've expected more people but he was also glad that the room wasn't so filled.

The two families ate and Yura and Niki only briefly listened in to the conversation of the adults. They had nothing to talk about with anyone, so both of them kept quiet.

Niki had been getting upset really easy recently. He blamed it on his lack of sex and that that was the reason he was so frustrated and annoyed.
He could hook up with anyone any time, but he wanted to wait and see if Yura would approach him some time, not to talk.

That never happened and the boy slowly guessed that she was ending it completely, so he should just move on and go to the next girl like he always did.

Yura saw Niki glancing at her. She noticed how tense and weird he had been. It was since the day at the mal, the last time they had talked that day was as he asked about the bruise. Did he know that she lied? Was that the reason for his behavior?

The girl didn't even realize when they finished eating. They all put their dishes away and went into the living room.
The Christmas tree stood tall in the corner with presents underneath.

"Let's open the gifts!" Mrs. Nishimura clapped happily.

Everyone picked gifts up and gave them go the one whose name was on it.

"Yura!" The girl looked at her uncle when he called her and he held a small gift towards her.

Niki perked up when she took it. He recognized the box. It was his present.
He watched carefully as she slowly opened it, her eyes shined with happiness and amazement at what was inside.
A rose quartz necklace was the first one she picked up.
Niki tried to prevent the smile when he saw her putting the necklace against her chest and looking down at it. Why was that making him so happy?

Without thinking further, he stood up and kneeled down behind her as she sat on the floor.
He took the ends of the necklace in his fingers, ignoring Yura's surprised jump and how she slightly turned her head to the side before noticing that it was him.
