Mrs. Nishimura was driving while Yura sat in the back with Niki. The boy purposely sat in the backseat with her instead of the passenger seat. He knew how it felt to lose your dad, even tho I guessed that it was different with Yura, he was sure that it'd still leaves a scar in her heart. So he sat next to her, holding her hand.
"We're almost there." Mrs. Nishimura told them.
"Are you sure about this?" The older woman asked.
"Absolutely. I want to see my mom, I missed her." Yura replied.
"Didn't she leave you with that asshole?" Niki frowned, not sure if he should trust his judgment. After all, when Yura's father was able to treat her so badly then why would it be different with her mom? That's what worked through his mind, but he wouldn't speak out his doubts before he even met the woman.
"No." Yura chuckled slightly as she replied to Niki's question. Her smile turned into a sad one as she looked at him "She actually took me with her to leave."
Niki frowned "How did you end up by your father then?"
"He followed us, lurked around our apartment and just waited for opportunities to approach us." The girl explained "I was too young to know the situation and to even see what was going on. I was excited to see him every time he showed up, my mom didn't want to take that away from me and let me talk to him. I don't know what exactly happened but some day we were in front of the law and I decided to live with my dad. He.. manipulated me into thinking my mom was the bad guy and that she hurt me, but none of that was true. I have her number and we talked sometimes after she lost me to him and I never experienced a flaw in the way she treated me. I regret doing this to her, choosing my father over my mom.. "Yura trailed off for a second "But one good thing came out of that. I met you."
Niki's upset frown softened at her last words and he slung his arm around her shoulder to pull her into his side "How do you know all of this, weren't you super young?" he asked.
"My mom told me."
"And you believe her?" Niki questioned, he didn't mean it harshly or asked in suspicion but out of curiosity.
"I do."
Niki nodded and played his head against hers as they waited to arrive at Yura's mom's house.
The girl recognized the neighborhood and knew that they were only a few minutes away. Yura's eyes drifted to Mrs. Nishimura in the driver's seat and the girl sat up, Niki's arms falling loosely around her.
"She would like you. You would get along." Yura spoke and it took a second for Mrs. Nishimura to register that the younger girl meant her.
"Oh- you think so?" Mrs. Nishimura asked, suddenly nervous as she didn't expect that.
"I know it." Yura replied, smiling slightly before turning to look at Niki "You too. She'll love you."
Niki smiled, looking down at his feet as his cheeks warmed. A relieved feeling filled his chest at her words but he was even more nervous now to meet Yura's mom.
