Part two of three of Edward (2)

"You're lying." Bella stared blankly at Alice, her voice trembling with disbelief.

After Edward had confirmed Alice's vision, she quickly gathered everyone outside to explain. The tension was palpable, hanging in the air like a storm about to break.

"I'm sorry! It just wasn't my place to tell and—" Alice began, her voice cracking under the weight of her guilt.

"Wasn't your place?! You had me believing that he was my soulmate, Alice!" Bella whisper-shouted, her face flushed with anger, her eyes blazing with betrayal.

"I wanted to tell you! I did! But then everything happened so fast. I was going to tell Edward at least! I was! But then you found out about vampires so quickly, and then you knew about Jake, then the newborns, and I just..." Alice's voice trailed off, her eyes glistening with unshed tears that she could never shed.

The group fell into a thick silence. Jasper rubbed Alice's back, his touch gentle and reassuring as she struggled to find her words. Edward stared at the ground, his thoughts racing about everything, especially that Bella, a human who shouldn't have known about vampires, now knew everything.

Emmett and Rosalie stood back, watching with their arms crossed. Rosalie felt a sense of relief wash over her as she glanced at Emmett. His face twisted in confusion as he looked at Bella. Rose flicked her eyes to the windows of the lunchroom. She saw you get up from your seat and make your way to the door. Rose looked at her phone; lunch was almost over. As you made your way through the door, Rosalie walked over to you.

"Rose?!" Edward said, panicking as he saw where she was headed.

Bella looked away from Alice, her eyes widening instantly. "What is she doing?"

"Hey," Rosalie said bluntly as she stood in front of you, blocking your path.

You stopped, your eyebrows furrowed. "Hey... Rosalie, right?"

Ignoring your question, she took a step even closer. You leaned back in awkwardness.

"Have you read the second one?" she asked bluntly, looking down at your book.

You smiled, the awkwardness leaving your body as you looked down at your book. "I've been wanting to! I just reread it—finished it today—and was honestly going to skip the rest of school to get the second one. Have you read it yet?"

Rose smiled as you talked about the book. She didn't feel annoyed as you spoke to her.

"This makes sense now," she said aloud for her family to hear.

"What?" you asked, confused.

Rosalie shook her head. "Come on, I'll go with you. The second one is amazing..."

Edward's eyes went wide as he watched the two of you walk off.

"Well, I see she chose her side..." Bella mumbled, not surprised.

"Let's go home and talk about this," Emmett stated, starting to walk to the car. For once, he didn't know what to say other than that.

At the Cullen house, Esme and Carlisle were filled in. Esme looked at Bella with sympathy as Carlisle let out a huge sigh.

"Bella, how do you feel about all this? If Edward decides to break off this relationship... I'm sorry, I have to ask, but would you tell people about us?" he asked, trying to be as direct as possible.

"But he's not breaking up with me." Bella started confidently as she looked at Edward, his face twisting into an awkward smile as he looked at her.

"You're breaking up with me?!" she stated in shock.
