The clock strikes midnight. Sumedh wakes up to find Mallika clutching her abdomen, tears streaming down her face.

"Mallika!"
he exclaimed, rushing to her side.

"I can’t… breathe,"
she gasped, her body trembling.
Sumedh gently cradled her in his arms.

"I’m here. I’ve got you."
As he held her, a sharp pain shot through his own body. His head spun, and he felt his strength fading.

"We’ll get through this,"
he whispered, though he wasn’t sure if he was reassuring her or himself.

They held each other tightly, their breaths shallow and labored.
As dawn approached, Mallika’s body went limp in Sumedh’s arms.

"Mallika? Mallika!"
Sumedh cried, shaking her gently.

He felt his own body giving out, his vision blurring. His hands fumbled for his phone as he called Arjun.

"Arjun… help… it’s time,"
he whispered before collapsing beside Mallika.

Arjun bursts into the room, finding both of them unconscious on the floor.

"Sumedh! Mallika!"
he shouted, shaking them.

Tears streamed down his face as he carried them to his car, driving recklessly to the hospital.

Arjun's pov:
Why? Why did this have to happen to them? They didn’t deserve this. Aarohi doesn’t deserve to lose her parents.

As he sped through the streets, he glanced at the rearview mirror, where Sumedh and Mallika lay unconscious.

Inside the hospital room. The sterile white walls are illuminated by the dim glow of the heart monitors. Sumedh stirs awake, his body weak and trembling. He glances to his side, where Mallika lies unconscious on the bed, her face pale and fragile. Drips are attached to both their hands, and the air smells faintly of antiseptic.

Sumedh's pov:
I struggled to sit up, every muscle in my body screaming in protest. The sound of her uneven breathing reached my ears, and panic surged through me.

"Mal… Mallika…"
I whispered, my voice cracking.

I yanked the needle out of my arm, ignoring the pain, and dragged myself to her bedside. Dropping to my knees, I cupped her cold hand in mine, pressing it to my lips.

"Wake up, Mallika. Please…"
I begged, tears streaming down my face.
Her eyelids fluttered, and her weak voice reached my ears.

"Sum… Sumedh?"
I nodded, brushing the strands of hair from her face.

"I’m here, Mallika. I’m here"

Mallika's pov:
I opened my eyes slowly, feeling a weight in my chest and an unbearable ache in my body.

"What… what has happened to me?"
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Sumedh froze, his lips trembling. I could see the torment in his eyes.

"I… I need to tell you the truth, Mallika."

Sumedh's pov continue:
I couldn’t lie to her anymore. She deserved to know the truth, even if it shattered her. Taking a deep breath, I told her everything—the virus, her condition, my decision to get infected, and the time we had left.

As the words spilled from my mouth, I watched her face change. Shock, anger, and heartbreak collided in her eyes.

"You… YOU DID WHAT?!"
she screamed, grabbing my collar with her trembling hands.
