Pov - Steve

The general public of New York City, mainly Manhatten, is on its toes thanks to a singular, tiny butterfly for different reasons.
The crime rates weren't affected much. people, the ones interviewed by news channels and netizens, ridiculed the whole situation. Many of those who've not experienced being stopped or rescued by the little bug were dunking on the inspiring effect it had on witnesses.
I found the whole thing funny and endearing. whether or not I chose to believe it, it was entertaining.
Ayana's reaction to it was surprisingly underwhelming, she seemed pleased with the butterfly, as if she would seek it out just to try and communicate with it only to ask if it was 'cool' if she drew it.
her only reaction was a question that nearly sent me to the hospital from how hard I laughed.
"Is Shield gonna recruit it?" she asked, then examined her newly straightened hair and ignored me wheezing and practically dying on the floor.
"How are you not-?" as soon as I recovered I stated "I thought your reaction might be bigger, to be honest"
"It would have been if we didn't just watch that documentary you picked, with the creepy crawly bugs. so many of them on a documentary about architecture?!" she whined, waving her hands as if said insects were swarming around her "If I see them, I can feel them on me and I get scratchy and I think about killing them, and then you brought up the butterfly, and-"
"You're thinking about killing the butterfly"
"Not on purpose, but yes! What if we find the little guy and I accidentally squash him? my weak-ass lasers are enough to hurt it, the wings must be like half a millimeter thick or som-"
"60 nanometers.."
"..."
"I read up on butterflies the other day, they're trending because of the little vigilante"
I knew Ayanna would be just fine when she took her pouty lips into her mouth to hide a smile, calling the butterfly a vigilante was a good call.
"How do you even measure nanometers? I can't see that small-"
"I think one nano is a thousand milli..?"
"Did you know that that's why I can't see things smaller than hair? My power's vision is stuck to my real eyes' range!"
"Oh! I didn't realize..."
"You kinda did, though..."
"I did?"
"You told me to uncross my eyes so I can see further with my ghost eyes, remember? That should have been enough of a clue. Bobo and I made a list of potential triggers for me to try when we go back to the cabin-"
"Oh! Ooohhhh!! That was approved?!"
"Yess! Exciting, right?!"
To distract from my salivating and heating face I said "We would have plenty of time practicing how not to accidentally burn poor little butterflies.."
"But if I practice it... Isn't that all I'm ever going to think about?"
"How 'bout you focus on what the butterfly looks like and how blue wings aren't really blue or something, or even what horror character you'd-"
Next thing I knew Ayana was outlining a book about man-made vampires in the world of corrupt superheroes.
When I asked why vampires and how she got there she mentioned a show on our watchlist and how cool it was, to which I reminded her of my question and she recalled a scene in the show that introduced her to the concept of nature feeding on humans.
