Chen Yue walked in casually, hands in his pockets, but his eyes scanned the room quickly before settling on me. "Wow, everyone looks like they've had a fun time," he said, his usual teasing smirk in place.
Jake, oblivious to any tension, grinned. "Yeah, Mia's been losing her mind. It's been great."
Chen Yue chuckled and turned to me. "You good?"
I nodded too fast. "Yeah! Totally fine! Everything is fine!"
Ethan, who had been watching the interaction, glanced between me and Chen Yue before raising an eyebrow. "You two know each other well?"
Chen Yue shrugged. "I'd say so. We go way back."
I wanted to kick him. Way back? He made it sound way more dramatic than it was. Sure, we had history, but not that kind of history.
Ethan tilted his head slightly, as if processing something. "Huh."
Huh? What did huh mean?!
Before I could panic more, Jake clapped his hands. "Alright, enough talking. We have a game to play!"
I sighed in relief at the distraction. But as we all sat down, I couldn't ignore the way Ethan and Chen Yue seemed to be sizing each other up subtly.
Great. Just what I needed.
A totally non-existent love triangle getting even more complicated.
