Three months later...
Life had settled into something surprisingly normal after the whole love-triangle-that-wasn't situation. I wasn't tangled up in weird, lingering feelings for Ethan. I wasn't overanalyzing every interaction with Chen Yue. I wasn't embarrassing myself every five seconds.
Okay, the last part is a lie. I was still me after all.
But things were good.
Jake was still Jake—annoying, dramatic, and somehow convinced that he was the main character in this family. Chen Yue had become the best kind of chaos, and Ethan? Well, Ethan and I had fallen into this weird, comfortable dynamic where we were just... cool. No awkward tension. No weird eye contact moments where my brain glitched.
Just friends.
And you know what? I loved that.
"MIA!" Jake's voice boomed through the apartment, and I groaned, already regretting my existence.
"WHAT?!" I shouted back, popping a chip into my mouth as I lounged on the couch.
"I NEED YOUR HELP!"
"DOES IT INVOLVE YOU LOSING SOMETHING AGAIN?"
A pause.
"...No."
I sighed, getting up. "You're the worst liar in this house."
Walking into the room, I found Jake standing with Chen Yue and Ethan, looking way too pleased with himself. That was never a good sign.
"What's going on?" I asked, suspicious.
Jake clapped his hands together. "We're going out! You, me, the guys. We've decided."
I narrowed my eyes. "Decided what?"
Chen Yue grinned. "That it's time for you to live a little."
I groaned. "I do live. I just choose to do it indoors, peacefully, where I don't have to interact with idiots like you."
Ethan smirked. "And yet, here you are. Interacting."
I glared at him. "I regret it already."
Jake threw an arm around me. "Mia, Mia, Mia. It's time for your main character moment."
I shoved him off. "I AM NOT A MAIN CHARACTER."
Chen Yue nodded solemnly. "That's exactly what a main character would say."
I gave him a flat look. "You're enjoying this way too much."
"Obviously."
Jake gestured dramatically. "Come on, let's go. We're celebrating."
"Celebrating what?"
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "You not embarrassing yourself for three whole months."
I gasped. "THAT IS SO RUDE."
Chen Yue grinned. "It's true though."
I crossed my arms. "Fine. But if this night ends in disaster, I am blaming all of you."
Jake slung an arm around both Ethan and Chen Yue. "That's the spirit! Let's make some questionable life choices!"
I sighed, shaking my head, but deep down? I smiled.
Because for the first time in a long time, I wasn't worried about the past.
Or crushes.
Or what could have been.
I was just me. And honestly?
That was enough.
The End*****************
