''The people we surround ourselves with can shape our world—but they can't always save us from ourselves.''

Diary Entry, October 17th

Today, I spent most of lunch with my class partner and their friend. It's kind of nice, having a mix of friends in different grades. I can just focus on them and not think about Ethan for a while. It's like I'm living in two worlds—the one where I'm a normal 12-year-old, and the one where I'm obsessed with a boy three years older who doesn't know I exist.

It helps, being around people who don't know about my crush. It's like a secret I keep to myself. I laugh with them, talk about school, and forget that in the back of my mind, I'm always waiting to see Ethan in the hallway or catch a glimpse of him after school.

Sometimes I think about telling Lily or Daniel, but what's the point? It's not like anything can happen. He's in 10th grade, for God's sake. What would a guy like Ethan want with someone like me?

But still... I can't stop hoping.
