!Part 1!
"The Phantom Thief?"
The two elderly males looked upon Heizou, one donning a scowl on his face while the other struggled with a small smile. The detective scrutinized the two in great detail, turning his gaze to read the piece of paper laid before him.
The note was created with differently sized letters from pages of a magazine childishly glued onto the paper to form the short sentence:
Shimenawa's Reminiscence Will Be Mine To Take Tonight.
"That bastard is the only thief we know who prophesies their own thievery." The scowling elder spat, fixing his grey hairs.
That was true—the infamous Phantom Thief of Japan was a thief with a unique modus operandi. They would send a note with the name of the object they would be stealing along with the exact time, slipping it through the enemy's doors undetected.
Despite having only been active for a month short of a year, they had managed to make a name for themselves. Nobody had been able to catch them in the act nor unveil their true identity.
Heizou was, of course, one of the many who were interested in this enigma of a thief.
"Shimenawa's Reminiscence..." Heizou muttered under his breath. The artifact itself he held no sentimental value towards, but the history embedded to the material was one he bitterly remembered.
"If you're willing to protect the artifact and catch the criminal," The more timid male spoke, rubbing his hands together. "You will, of course, be compensated accordingly."
To get one thing straight, Heizou did not care for money; he did the things he did in the name of justice, not for his bank account. But it was certainly amusing to watch the owners of two prominent companies practically grovel at his feet for his assistance.
"We wouldn't want Mikimoto and Shirashi to take such a blow to their reputation, yes?" The detective sarcastically jabbed at their names, both pretending not to be affected by his pointed look.
"Alright then." He threw the note back onto the table, standing up from his seat as he made his way towards the exit. "Shimenawa's Reminiscence will not be leaving its home tonight."

"[Name], the file please."
The assistant gingerly placed the yellow folder of documents into his hand, fixing her gold-rimmed glasses as she sat down next to his desk.
Heizou silently shifted through the papers, each sheet documenting cases related to the Phantom Thief: their methods, tricks, and the treasure they had stolen from at least 12 companies since the start of their career.
"How...exactly do you intend on stopping them from stealing this time?" [Name] mumbled, looking over his shoulder to scan the text as well.
Heizou sighed, mindlessly flipping the pages in his hand as he leaned on the palm of the other. "Well, it's a matter of trapping them after the act. Not preventing them from coming in the first place."
