~Melina's POV~
I stared in awe as the great beast roared up at the stars, and blinked rapidly as the lightning burned my eyes. It stopped momentarily and locked eyes on Karma and I. The Skrill did a mixture of hissing and growling, and turned its body into a threatening stance.
This dragon could very well be the next Alpha, not that I was an expert or anything. I mean, it was probably like most Skrills, right? Spark ran to our side, squawking nervously. We all stood stone still, warily eyeing each other for what seemed like forever.
Then with a burst of speed that looked like teleportation the Skrill had lifted off and was heading...the way we had come. "Come, on, girl!" I yelped to Karma. When we were airborne I looked back and port and saw Spark struggling to keep up.
Sighing, I motioned for Karma to slow. Spark would make a good academy dragon, and besides, there was an empty spot. It wasn't like we would lose track of the Skrill anyway. I glanced up ahead and saw bolts of lightning illuminating our path, which had turned in seconds into a tunnel.
~Arrow's POV~
I had been out here all night with my eyes on the horizon. The stars formed a planetarium with no contest for the best. They peeked over the horizon in a dome. I wondered if Mel was looking at the same stars...and if Hiccup was looking at steel bars.
I saw lightning flash over the horizon and shivered, pulling my cloak tighter around myself. Dim, bright, brighter. It was ominous, and too far away for me to hear its thunder. I hoped Melina wasn't flying in that. I hoped a lot of things.
I looked back at my house, where I could see Bonecrusher curled up on my cozy wooden floor, sleeping. I watched the steady rise and fall of his chest. Thunder sounded, and the sky brightened, reflecting against the sea. I stood up, the wind blowing against me.
Maybe it was time to go in. I squinted, hearing thunder. The wind assaulted Berk, making things creak and groan. I was alone in the dark night, but not for long. I heard a door open, and then slam shut with the force of the weather.
"Arrow!" Kyrra called, running up to me. "What are you doing out here?" she yelled, looking nervous and about to fall over. Staraster trotted behind her, apprehensive. "I don't know," I shouted. "But this doesn't look like a normal storm."
Kyrra grabbed my arm and when that didn't work, her dragon gently took hold of my other one. I struggled, elbowing Kyrra and resisting. I complained under my breath. Was she seriously kidnapping me?
My attempts were at the mercy of Staraster, who jerked me forward, and Kyrra shoved me into her house. Kyrra struggled to close the door, and when she did, locked it. "What in Thor, Kyrra!" I snapped. "I- "Nothing from you," she retorted. I raised my eyebrows, taken aback, and crossed my arms. She leaned against the door, and we listened to the wind howl outside.
"I know Melina is out there, and Thor knows what else, but you can't risk your life constantly for her! We don't even know if she's alive!" Kyrra hissed, pointing in the direction of the ocean. "And if she's in that storm...don't look for her falling body. Pray for her." That really hit me hard and I slumped against her dresser, defeated.
"You're right," I muttered. She wasn't the only thing out there. I realized with as much ferocity as the storm what else was. "That's not a storm-it's a Skrill."
~Melina's POV~
Lightning crackled over my head, and Karma screamed quietly, at least, quickly compared to the thunder. My hair stood up, and I heard the persistent Nadder's annoyance close by. I shivered, ducking low.
The Skrill roared up ahead, and I set my jaw. We were following this thing. I kept my eyes focused on Karma's glowing, bright blue head, and wondered how nervous she was. Boyfriend nervous? Kidnapped nervous? About-to-die nervous?
Which one of those things related to her nerves? I rambled senselessly in my brain, and watched lightning echo all around us. I was in a sphere of the stuff. Karma halted, and I prayed to Thor. This was bad, really bad.
Suddenly I heard the roar again, and my neck hair stood up. It was coming for us. I shut my eyes and put my head on Karma's. The thunder was deafening. I didn't know where Spark was.
I cracked an eye and warily lifted my gaze to our front. I had heard the moving of air. The deadly dragon was right there, his powerful wings swooshing and lightning coursing through his wings. The Skrill roared and shook the air like the thunder.
Channeling electricity through his body, he opened his glowing mouth and prepared to turn us to ashes.
