Inspired by Dead by Daylight, the videogame.
Dead by Daylight is an online video game. It is a one-versus-four game in which one player takes on the role of a Killer and the other four play as Survivors; the Killer must hunt and impale each Survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity.
Disclaimers: Acts of violence, Murder, blood.
Everything was sketchy from the start, the way the gates slammed shut on you lot when you entered the abandoned graveyard to the way there were these four rundowns but still functioning generators all scattered around the layout, highlighted by some old, murky-looking lampposts hidden in the dense fog.
Everything was like a field, waiting to be used and toyed with. Old, worn-down lockers with the hinges nearly rusted off the doors were in almost every place you looked, all placed meticulously as if you were meant to hide in them.
Then there were these wooden pallets leaning vertically against the wall, as if you were supposed to stop somebody from getting through. I mean, it was an abandoned graveyard, so you had hoped at first it was just some construction parts left behind, and that was that.
But you had all stupidly walked into this sociopath's trap.
Your concerns were dismissed, of course, by your friends all calling you a chicken and making comments about how you should lay off the horror movies. This was supposed to be a fun trip to highlight the fact you all got into the colleges you picked, one last hurrah before the group separated for a bit to focus on studies.
Then, all of sudden, this young woman emerged from the shadows, a crossbow strapped to her back and a knife, ridiculed with dried up blood in her right hand menacingly as she just watched you all from afar before either of you took notice.
She looked around your age, her eyes blackened in the darkness of the night, her eyebags a prominent feature to match her pale, sickly skin. Her hair was as midnight as the sky, placed in two neat braids that hung down her shoulders, stopping just before it passed her upper chest. Her dress had a white collar with matching sleeves, and grey, tiny, decorated skulls were the pattern of her outfit as she paired it with black platform boots to give her height.
The talkative one of your friends approached her first after you caught wind of the new, unwanted presence. Feng Min, her smile friendly, her demeanour confident as she had started off the sentence of an apology for trespassing on property.
Then, when she did, it was like a switch had been flipped, like the start of a countdown beginning as she rapidly lunged from her spot and sliced your friend's neck right in front of the three of you.
All you remember was the blood-curdling scream ripped from your other two friends as you just stood in silent horror at the sudden death before you as your pal's body fell to the floor with a heavy thud.
'I should've just trusted my gut and stayed home.'
Was that the first thought that ran through your mind. Then the panic and fear creeped in, your heart thundering in your chest so loudly it drowned out the frantic shouting of your companions to get out of the restricted area.
You all broke off in three different directions even though your mind was screaming at you that it was a bad idea to split up. It was the start to every cheesy horror flick you had watched in the comfort of your home.
But now it was real, it was actually happening to you of all people.
Your head was racing as you instinctively sprinted towards the exit you all came through, only to stop halfway as you remembered the clicking of the lock shutting on your way in.
