I made this so my wife wouldn't divorce me. (Also, because it was long overdue.)

My lungs ached with a familiar burn from a lack of oxygen, but my legs refused to stop until I saw H/C in the distance. Y/n was there, waiting for me behind the school like we agreed. I came to a skidding stop in front of her, gasping for breath as I rasped out. "I apologise for my tardiness."

"Uh... you're like 10 minutes early." Y/n chuckled in amusement, a small smile on her lips that was doing anything but keeping my heart calm.

"Oh, I lost track of time then. I assumed I was late." I excused myself, feeling oddly flushed in her presence as I straightened myself up and smoothed out the wrinkles of my clothing. "Let us get a move on."

"Alright then," she answered with her smile still lingering as we made our journey through the woods.

We ended up chatting for a while. It was mostly me listening to Y/n ramble to me about her interests; she had such similarities to Elizabeth. The way she was animated with her hands when she spoke of something exciting, the furrow of her brows when she was thinking hard on the correct word to use in her sentence, the way her tongue rolled around her inner cheek when she lost track of what she was saying and was a little irritated. But despite all these similarities, I only see the beauty in her. Not my ancestors' lover.

"I have a question for you," I told her, looking at her for a reaction. The slight tilt of her head met me, the curious spark in her eyes that made her look similar to a puppy, begging me to continue. "Do you believe in reincarnation?"

"Mhmm..." She hummed in thought, "I do." She answered with a small nod. "I think that no matter what life you've lived, you can come back as something to do it all again."

"What if I told you... My family has a long line of reincarnations?" I posed a big question, one I hoped she wouldn't refuse.

"Really?" She sounded intrigued. "That sounds... freaky." The way she smiled had me thinking the choice of 'freaky' wasn't necessarily a bad thing. "I mean, it must be strange seeing someone who looks like you in old family photos." She laughed at the thought. "But I also think it's interesting, and maybe a sign that you haven't completed what it was you did in your last life so that you can complete it now."

"You think I still have something to complete?" I asked, feeling a warmth of hope in my chest at her unique perspective.

"Well, you're a psychic, right?" She flashed me an innocent grin. "If you have a spirit guiding you down a path, I think you should listen to them or at least keep their advice in mind."

"I'll think on it. Thanks, Y/n." I told her quietly, looking away from her infuriatingly adorable face to try and get a better handle on my emotions before I do something stupid. Curse her for being so wildly perceptive, I swear, this girl makes me struggle between wanting to strangle her or kiss her. I was never a fatalist, but when it came to meeting Y/n, it couldn't have been anything else but destiny.

It was silent for a good while as we continued to traverse the woods, nothing but the crunches of leaves beneath our shoes and the sounds of our soft breaths that accompanied the wildlife that roamed the forest.

"So, you ready for me to wolf out on you?" She teased, nudging me with her elbow to my chest, and I had to suppress my instincts to smile.

"If you so much as snarl at me, I will euthanise you quicker than you can make a bark," I warned, but it only made her laugh before she ran off behind a tree to transform. I found myself smirking a little at the sound of bones snapping and popping in place, before a large wolf took Y/n's place, happily approaching me in a play bow, growling softly to go along with it, with her tongue lolled out. "I did warn you." I mused with a raise of my brow at her audacity to square me up, even if I was physically at a disadvantage.
