Bree's POV
The day with Jace had been so fun! We ran around through the forest and stopped at Greasy's Diner for lunch. He was so nice to me and I felt grateful, not like how Dipper was treating me. I now waved good bye to Jace and was walking back to the Mystery Shack. I wish more people acted like Jace, he was so, so nice. I was smiling brightly, humming to myself as I walked along when I saw a flash of yellow in the trees.
I froze and looked at where I had seen it. It was still there. I peered closer and almost screamed. Bill. He hadn't seen me yet. I quickly ran back to the shack with my heart pounding. He was looking for me. Oh God... I quickly ran up the stairs and knocked on the attic door.
"Come in." It was Mabel again.
I opened the door and stepped in alone. Mabel smiled at me, but her smile was different, almost like it was slightly forced. Why was that?
"How was it with Jace?" She asked.
"It was great!" I exclaimed. "He's so nice to me and he is fun to hang out with...I'm glad I'm friends with him..." I murmured.
Mabel smiled very wide. "Do you like him?" She asked with obvious restraint.
"Well, yeah, that's why I hang out with him..." I said. Why was Mabel acting so weird...?
"Do you have a crush on him?" Her voice, again, restrained.
"Crush him?! No! I'd never do that! Why, is that something I should do...or-?"
"No, no, no, no." Mabel interrupted. "I mean, do you want to be his girlfriend?"
"I am already his girl friend." I said.
"You are?!"
"Well duh, I'm a girl and I'm his friend-"
"NO! The other one, that I taught you! Did you already forget?!" Mabel asked wildly.
"Oh, right! So, I have to crush him-"
"No!" Mabel started laughing. "Remember, when you have a crush on someone you like them more than normal. You-you...well, love them, I guess."
"Oh...I don't know if I love him..." I turned away and saw Dipper watching me. He immediately looked away and into his journal.
"But do you have a crush, not crush-crush, a crush where you really like someone, on him?" She asked breathlessly.
I could feel Dipper staring at me again.
"Um, sure, I guess."
Mabel gave a big YES and pumped her fist into the air. "Yes! Perfect! I know he has a crush on you too!"
"He-he does?" It was still strange to hear her using the word crush in a different manor.
"It's obvious!"
"Well, I'm meeting him here tomorrow, so we can talk." I said.
Mabel smiled and looked out at the darkening sky. "Well, I'm going to bed, you have to tell me how it goes with you and Jace tomorrow!"
"Ok." I smiled like she did and crawled down onto her sweater mattress. Dipper closed his journal and stared at me a moment longer.
"Good night Mabel." He said.
"Good night Dip!" Mabel said as she dove into her covers.
"Good night Bree." He said.
I smiled and curled up. "Good night Dipper."
And he turned off the lights.
The next morning I was waiting down in the gift shop just as Stan opened it up. I was so excited to see him again! I pulled at the beanie on my head and rocked on my feet impatiently. He would be here soon. People started to poor into the gift shop and I looked around for Jace. I finally spotted his blonde hair and I ran up.
"Jace!" I called.
Jace whipped around and smiled. "Hey Bree!"
I quickly pulled him outside excitedly. "Ok, I've been wanting to tell you something." I started.
"Yeah?"
How did Mabel say to do it? "I wanna crush you." I smiled.
Jace's eyes widened. "W-what?"
My smiled disappeared. "That's not right is it?" I asked half to myself. I cleared my throat. "Ok, um, I have a crush on you. There we go!" I smiled again and Jace laughed.
"Really? That's nice to know-"
"Bree!"
I jumped and looked up at the triangular window and saw Dipper. "Dipper?" I called out confused.
"We have breakfast ready!" He said.
I shook my head in disbelief. "Are you kidding me?" I said angered by his interruption.
"Why would I kid about the most important meal of the day?!" And Dipper closed the window.
I sighed and turned back to Jace. "Uh, what were you going to say?" I asked.
Jace shook his head. "Oh, nothing, I gotta go, see yah later Bree." Jace jogged off.
"B-but..." I dropped my hand. Dipper... I scowled and marched back into the house. I threw the door open and stormed off into the kitchen. Dipper and Mabel were eating pancakes. Dipper looked up and choked on his pancake.
"Bree, you're all red."
"Obviously! Why did you interrupt that?!" I asked sternly.
"I didn't know I was interrupting anything." Dipper shrugged.
I growled and sat down next to them. I looked at the pancakes and felt hungry...strange...I was never hungry. I didn't need to eat. I shrugged and put two on my plate and ate slowly.
"So how'd it go with Jace?" Mabel asked.
I saw Dipper look up at me expectantly. "It went ok, I told him I had a crush on him....well, rather, I told him I wanted to crush him, but I corrected myself." I said.
Mabel laughed. "What did he say then?"
"I don't know...Dipper interrupted." I felt myself heat up again.
"Sorry!" Dipper said.
I heard him say sorry, but something about his apology wasn't earnest.
A nice extra longish chapter for you guys since my chapters have been ridiculously short lately, haha
