Bree's POV

I ran home and the tears were cold against my face. I rushed through the trees and into the clearing in the night. Up ahead was the Mystery Shack. I began jogging back.

I couldn't stay with Carson, I couldn't. And, now he was saying he wanted to come with?! It was all to much. He seemed to know me and idolize me, but I barely knew him. When I saw him, though, I immediately recognized him and felt my heart break. Carson was special, but i wanted to stay with Dipper and Mabel.  I barreled through the door and up the stairs. I decided to calm down and I opened the door slowly.

Dipper and Mabel were sound asleep. I tip-toed over to my sleeping bag on the ground and was about to slide in when I heard footsteps. I jumped and turned around to see Carson.

"Carson." I hissed quietly. "Get out!"

"No." He whispered back. "I'm not gonna get out." He spat.

I rolled my eyes and stood up to face him. "Carson, you can't be here. They are asleep and I'm going to sleep too!" I glanced quickly at both of them to make sure they didn't wake.

Carson smirked. "Bree, you're not getting rid of me." He crossed his arms stiffly.

I let out a groaning sigh. "Fine, you can go sleep in the bathroom if you like."  I said sarcastically.

Carson narrowed his eyes at me. "What's your problem with me?" He asked and I could hear the hurt hidden in his voice.

I licked my dry lips. "Nothing, just, I want to have a normal life with Mabel and Dipper." I explained.

"Sure." His eyes were dark.

I looked away guiltily. "Sorry Carson...just, I don't want a life stuck in Gravity Falls." I whispered. "You are just a painful way to remember my past."

"And your past does not define you." He said.

I smiled a little. He said it like he was quoting a movie or something. "Exactly. Good night."

Carson sighed and sat down cross legged at the end of my sleeping bag. I crawled into my sleeping bag and tried to go to sleep. I closed my eyes, but I always ended up seeing his. Green and how they changed color with his mood. His eyes... I opened my eyes again in frustration. I closed them again and saw him. What the heck? GO! TO! SLEEP! I screamed at myself.

I quickly snuck a glance at where Carson was and saw him staring at me. I grew embarrassed. "What?" I asked, my voice muffled with the covers.

"Can't sleep or something?" He asked.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "No, just...distracted."

"Bree, please, just let us talk out in the forest. I have more to say..." Carson begged.

I groaned. "Carson. No." I flinched as I heard Dipper's covers shifting around. Was he awake? Had he been listening?

Carson glanced only for a second at Dipper before looking back at me. His eyes, already dark with sorrow, darkened to almost a black. "Oh." His voice was sour.

Dammit. He knew he liked me and that I kind of liked him. Was it seriously that obvious, or was Carson just an expert at reading emotions? How else would he know I liked Dipper?

"No. T-that's not why." I grumbled.

His dark gaze just shrouded around me. Why was he so upset I liked him? Because he was human? Then it hit me.

"Do you miss being completely human?" I asked.

He looked taken back and his gaze cleared back to the bright green. "Um...yes, I do. A lot."

"Why?" I sat up.

"Well...I miss being normal, you know? It'd be nice to walk down a road and not have to worry about being attacked by a rival demon or being hunted for my powers..." He trailed off and the bright green was gone.

"Carson, I'm sorry, but being special can't be that bad." I was saying this mostly on my part, because I had never been fully human before.

He shook his head. "It is that bad. I would very much love to be human and-" He broke off, his eyes glistening.

"What is it?"

"M-my family." He voice barely came out as a whisper.

I paused. Family. That's right, he had to of had a family before he got captured. "Your mom? Your dad?" I looked deep into his eyes. "What do you think they thought happened? To you, I mean."

I saw him clench his fists tightly. "I don't know. I bet they thought I was kidnapped or ran away or something terrible." His took a deep, shaky breath. "Look, we don't need to be talking about this. Night." He leaned up against the end of Mabel's bed post and closed his eyes. I slowly sank back into my sleeping bag and fell asleep quickly. I could still see his eyes.
