Bree's POV

I walked down the dirt road with Carson. It was about midnight now and we had been walking for hours. He was right, the mansion was far away. The moon was high in the sky. Carson walked close to me and was silent most of the way. I couldn't find anything to say to him, he seemed so tense. His face was strained as if he was anxious about something that was going to happen. I looked up at him curiously. "Hey, are you ok? You seem stressed."

Carson jumped. "I-um, I'm fine."

"You sure?"

"Yes." His reply was curt.

I shook my head angrily. "UGH! I just feel so awful!"

Carson stared at me surprise. "Why? I already told that they'll get over it."

I lowered my gaze. "I-yeah...I know. Just, Dipper was so heartbroken and Mabel was so pissed off at me and that's the last thing they'll remember about me! This horrible person who just decided to betray them before they left forever!" I clenched my fists and stopped walking abruptly.

Carson sighed in exasperation. "Look, Bree, you don't need to worry about them ever again!"

I growled. "I'm sorry about being so frantic about all of this..." I apologized.

"Don't apologize. I don't need that." Carson sighed depressingly.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I lied to you Bree... I told you a little while back that this journal I am writing," he pulled out his notes, "is to help demons become human without disaster." Carson sighed and licked his lips. "These notes are not on how to help demons, it's impossible for demons to become human without disaster!"

I took a step back in shock.

Carson continued on. "I was tracking you, to find you, but then that demon Jace popped up on my roster and you two together was like a red dot on white paper. I ran as fast as I could so I could find him. I saw he was going to kill you guys and would successfully complete his murder. I wasn't really saving you guys, I was trying to kill Jace and send him back." Carson sighed and looked down at the notes. "I-I'm sorry I lied. But it's the truth that you should know."

"W-why didn't you tell me?" I backed away.

"I didn't want to frighten you off!" Carson exclaimed.

I looked down and away from him. "Do you love me?" I asked suddenly.

"O-of course, it's just my job." Carson reached into his pocket for a moment.

I sighed and looked up at the moon. I smiled. "Well, that's good." I stared at the silver light and admired the stars.

"Bree?"

I turned around smiling and found myself facing the barrel of a silver pistol. Carson bit his lip a he held it to my head. "I have a job to do." He looked me in the eyes. "Sorry Bree."

And he pulled the trigger.
