"Ok, about two more hours till we get to Maryland." I said.
"Good." She replied.
"And then, when we get to Maryland, it's your turn to drive."
"No,I literally just drove."
"No, you drove fourteen hours ago, then in two my hours, it will be sixteen hours, also known as your turn."
"Fine, I guess this is how it's gonna be now."
"Did I miss something?"
"No, I just mean it's the end of making you be my personal chauffeur."
"Stop." I said, gently punching her shoulder. She shrugged and looked back on the road. She was so focused, that I had forgotten she was there.
"Margo?"
"I'm sorry, what?"
"Nothing I just wanted to make sure that you were ok. Are you ok?"
"Yeah, yeah. I just got distracted for a second."
"Oh, ok. Want to play a game?"
"Nah, but I am hungry, can we stop for lunch?"
"Sure. Where do you want to stop?"
"This little diner at the corner looks good."
"Ok." I said, pulling into the diner's parking lot. It was eleven-thirty and I'm pretty sure that Margo was dying of starvation because we had not had breakfast. Or, at least that was the impression I was getting. Margo walked in ahead of me, eager to get some food. I followed her, making sure to keep up pace. We walked in and noticed a sign that said:
PLEASE,
PICK ANYWHERE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SIT.
Margo shrugged and found us a booth next to the window. A man came to our table not to long after.
"Hi my name is Jake, I'll be your server today, can I get you something to drink?"
"Hmmm, I think I'll just have water." Margo said.
"I guess I will too." I said. The guy nodded and walked away.
"What are you gonna get?" Margo asked me.
"I don't know, maybe....."
"Do you want to get the French toast and split it with me?"
"Sure, how many squares of toast?"
"Six I think. They're big though."
"How would yo know?"
"I ate here last year, on my way to Agloe."
"Oh ok, is their food good?"
"It's ok. It ok compared to some of the stuff I've had." I nodded my head, like I usually did. Margo smiled at the waiter who brought our waters.
"Ok um can I get you something- I'm sorry, I just have a question. Are you guys on a date?" Margo looked at me, and then back at the waiter.
"Not particularly...why?" she asked.
"I was just wondering, do you wanna go out with me tonight or tomorrow night?"
"No."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I already have a boyfriend."
"Who?"
"Him, duh." she said pointing to me, "can't you see, we're madly in love." She said batting her eyes. There was always a sense of sarcasm in her voice. It was one of her many qualities that I absolutely loved, plus every other quality.
"But I thought you said that you guys weren't on a date."
"We're not. Did I mention that he's also my best friend? Right so, we're not on a date as boyfriend and girlfriend, just and best friends. Understand?"
"Not really, but whatever." Margo looked at me and winked.
"Oh and one more thing," I said, and he looked at me, "can we have a new waiter?"
