A soft touch on my cheek made me stir in my sleep

A soft touch on my cheek made me stir in my sleep. A gentle pat—warm, careful, familiar. I didn’t want to wake up. My body felt too heavy, my heart still burdened by the weight of earlier emotions.

I squeezed my eyes shut, wanting to sink deeper into the warmth that surrounded me. But then, that voice—deep, soothing, and impossible to ignore—coaxed me back to reality.

"Uthiye Bachha!"

(Get up, baby.)

I groaned softly, unwilling to leave the comfort of slumber. But the moment I opened my eyes, the sting of unshed tears made them ache.

My vision blurred for a second before adjusting to my surroundings. I blinked twice, taking in the dimly lit interior of the car. The sun had long set, and outside, the world was cloaked in darkness.

I was curled up in his lap. My husband’s lap.

Realization dawned upon me as I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes with tiny fists. The warmth of his embrace lingered on my skin, and I turned to look at him. His face was calm yet firm, his dark eyes watching me with quiet patience.

"Chaliye?" he asked softly.

(Shall we go?)

I nodded sleepily. He stepped out of the car first, then reached for my hand, guiding me down. The moment my feet touched the ground, a sharp gust of wind hit me, making me shiver.

The air was crisp, and the darkness around us felt almost endless. My brows furrowed in confusion.

This wasn’t the Roy Choudhury mansion.

I turned to him with questioning eyes.

He smirked slightly, tilting his head. "Confused?"

I gave him a small nod, and he chuckled.

"Upar dekhiye,"  he said, amusement lacing his voice.

(Look up,)

I hesitated before lifting my gaze toward the sky.

BOOM!

A loud explosion of colors burst in the sky. Fireworks—bright, dazzling, golden streaks illuminating the night.

My breath hitched as the sky came alive with brilliant shades of red, blue, and silver. The sudden burst of light startled me, and instinctively, I clutched Anirudh’s hand, squeezing it tight.

He leaned down, his voice gentle as he whispered, "Main yahin hoon, Bachha." (I'm here, baby.)

My heart swelled.

And then—

The darkness vanished.

All at once, the world lit up around me. Thousands of tiny lights flickered on, casting a golden glow upon the surroundings. And right in front of me stood the most breathtaking sight I had ever seen.
