SELENA'S POV
There's silence between us for the next three days. It's not worrisome, just a sense of peace. We're trying to figure things out I know it. We're learning how to be with each other without feeling suffocated. Things are meant to be slow, that's what we agreed on.
I'm ready to head out for a yoga session I planned this morning. My phone dings, a new message alert on the screen. It's him and my heart flutters a little.
I hope you have a great day today, I miss you. Just thought you should know.
I read it over, a million times. A smile creeps on my face as I hold the phone against my chest. It feels like we're speaking for the first time. How you wait for your crush to finally text you after a day together. I reply back, sweet, simple but enough to let him know I miss him too.
Taylor's suppose to meet me at the studio. It's our girls day today, something we pre planned due to our busy schedules. She leans against her car as I pull into the parking next to her. Her hair is cut shorter, a bob, blonder. She looks spectacular, but Taylor always did even when she didn't try.
I grab my gym bag, pull it over my shoulder as I shut the door behind me. She looks up, a grin on her face as she rushes in my direction to hug me.
"Thank god I finally see you, I missed you Sel."
"I did too, we have a lot to catch up on."
"Trust me, we do." She says, but it's not her casual tone, it alludes to something. Like she knows something I don't and I won't find out until after yoga. I don't let it show in my face that I suddenly grew anxious. My impatience banging to get out.
The next hour is spent in poses that strain my muscles, sweat that covers my back and anxiety that grows by the minute. I breathe out harshly when the instructor dismisses us. Pull my damp hair back into a high bun before grabbing my bag from the cubbies. Taylor and I plan to head to a cafe, get some much needed coffee and decompress some more.
"How have you been?" She asks, her hands still around the menu as she scans the items.
"Okay I guess, nothing new."
"Have you heard from Christian?" She asks and this time she looks up, putting the menu down. I haven't heard that name in a while. Not since I left his apartment when I broke everything off. I clutch onto the cup of warm coffee, take a sip to give me energy to reply to that question.
"No."
"What really made you end things? I thought you guys were heading to a good place."
"We were, I just— I felt it was best not to drag him along with my uncertainty." I say, honest.
"Does this uncertainty deal with anybody from the past?" Her eyes narrowed just slightly, fishing for something to crack in me. She wasn't straight to the point. She always made me sit in my thoughts a little before I spilled the truth.
"No." I reply. A lie, and she knows it by the way my voice cracks. I hated when my body ratted me out.
"You're not someone who just cuts things off because of uncertainty. You know what you want which is the reason you went with Christian in the first place. He gives you a peace of mind."
