Sonic's POV
I was staring, at my billboard ad, that is right above my head.
This is when I took a rest on my way to Egg Man's base. It's always fighting and fighting and fighting. This time is when he wanted to takeover the city, again. I felt like ditching it anyway, so I took my time, obviously to delay my work. He's sure gonna got his ass kicked again, he sucked at being a villain.
Either the fight ended early or late, I'd never lose anyway.
The snow dropped on my face gently, and I let out a sigh of cold breaths. The white breath fogged my view, blurred out the colours, and made me deep in my thoughts.
It says, Service at the speed of sound! The billboard.
A lot of people told me, "I can always count on you Sonic!"
In fact, I have always wonder how long it will take for them to stop thinking of me or looking at me in that way.
Reliability isn't really my thing.
For what I know, the projection of me on the billboard and the me standing here is very different. Very very different.
It's so different from the present that I started to be irritated by it.
Wrong, all wrong. Why did I say that, things like that
"Carry a whole world's weight on your shoulder for the rest of your life," Shadow cut off my thoughts, "impressive."
I was surprised. Surprised by his sudden presence beside me.
Why didn't I notice him? How long has he been standing beside me?
Did I space out that long?
"At your service milady," I sarcasticly said that, didn't move a bit. I'm quite lazy to annoy him with sunshine and rainbows right now.
Shadow ignored my takes like usual, "yet, I don't trust you can handle it good this time."
I choke out a laugh under my breath, not because it's funny, I didn't budge, "heh, what? G.U.N. need you to supervise me?"
Shadow's face is always serious, no fun, no laughs, nothing. I wonder what's in his mind.
Me on the other hand, I smiled, I laughed, I talked. Even so, maybe we are alike in some ways.
He hid himself under nothing, I hid myself under everything, will he wonder what's in my mind?
As I thought of that, I asked him, my reaction are faster than my realisation.
"It's interesting how you said it like you've known me better than myself," I felt a bit burning up on my cheeks, but I also couldn't help to feel excited, and expecting an answer, "like you know what I'm thinking,"
"do you take it as a habit to ask yourself everyday, what is Sonic thinking?"
Give me a nice answer, Shadow. I would definitely love to hear what's on your mind.
The snow that fall on my cheeks melted. It slid down to my chin when I turn a little to look at him with my eyes corner. I still having my head angled up to the height of the billboard, my expression probably is terrible.
It made him stared. I felt warmer on my cheeks.
He said, "G.U.N. told me you're slacking. I'm here as backup."
This ticked me off.
"I don't work for G.U.N.," I moved, looked straight at him, frowning and angry, "so what if I 'slacking'? Is it my responsibility to swore to the society like what G.U.N. do? Like what you do, G.U.N. dog?"
I took a step forward, grabbing his uniform collar, insulted him, "Who are you to tell me what to do? You're just another non-human, a hedgehog that is no better than me, that they send you as backups."
Shadow frowned as well, "I proposed myself to G.U.N. to be backup when they questioned you," he pushed me when I'm dazed, making me loosen my grip, "look at your state, Sonic, I don't trust you can handle eggman this time, just go, anywhere."
"You're saying, you've volunteer, to help me?" I muttered those words like I was talking to myself, "You? Volunteered?"
Why didn't he just say so?
I feel my mouth corner lifted bit by bit, excitement rush through all over my limbs.
He said, "It's for the best, don't overthink it."
I suddenly laughed, very very loud.
He put his hand on his head like he's having a headache from listening, he sighed, "for your reminder, I'm the ultimate lifeform, I can do what you can, better or not it depends."
I smiled, "yeah," I took a deep breath, and let it out, the foggy breath blurred out his figure, the black and red shade suddenly pained my eyes; and when I can see him clearly as I rub my eyes, I said, "if it's not you, it definitely it's me."
Can I count on you? I asked in my head, and I have my answers.
