It was past 10 PM. The mansion lights had dimmed, leaving the corridors bathed in a soft golden hue. The kitchen staff had long retreated to their quarters, and a gentle quietness enveloped the grand halls of the Singhania Mansion.
Dinner had been quiet affair tonight. Only Kashi, Shalini, Rudra, and Anjali sat together at the long dining table. The absence of Rajendra, Vishwanath, and Raghavendra was noted, but not unexpected.
Shalini had explained gently, "There's an important investor meeting scheduled for tomorrow. They are working on the Indo-Western project proposal, so they had to stay back to ensure every detail is in place."
Kashi had received a call from Vishwanath just before dinner. His voice, though tired, still held the same tenderness she had grown to love.
"Kashi aaj mera wait matt karna aur time par dinner kar lena" (Kashi, don't wait for me today and have your dinner on time ) he had said.
"Veer ji, aap bhi apna dhyan rakhiye ga," (Veer ji, you please take care of yourself too ) she had replied, her voice soft with concern. "Aur please, dinner skip mat karna." (And please, don't skip dinner)
They ended the call with sweet nothings exchanged in soft tones and warm silences. It showed love didn't always need grand declarations sometimes, it lives in these quiet everyday acts.
Now, in the privacy of her room, Kashi sat on the bed, immersed in a book. The soft lamp by the bedside cast a golden glow over the pages, and her brows furrowed gently in concentration. But the tranquility was short-lived.
The door swung open abruptly, and Vishwanath stepped inside, still wearing his formal shirt, sleeves rolled up, phone pressed tightly to his ear. His usually composed tone was sharp, clipped with frustration.
"This is the height of irresponsible behaviour, Vivek," he said firmly. "At the last moment, you are telling me the designs aren't ready?"
There was a pause. Kashi's eyes followed his tense form as he paced, his other hand placed on his waist.
Yes, I know our head designer was on medical leave, but I specifically asked you to check on the substitute's work. What am I supposed to say to Papa? You know how critical this deal is for us!"
He paused, his tone edged with urgency."I don't want to hear any more excuses, Vivek. Just check if someone else can step in and handle the work."
A hesitant voice replied on the other end, but Vishwanath cut in again, firmer this time."I know it's last minute but we can't give up like this. Just check, alright?"
He didn't wait for a response and cut the call mid-sentence, tossing the phone onto the nearby armchair with an irritated sigh. His hand went up to his forehead, massaging his temple, trying to ease the growing tension.
That's when she softly called out, "Veer ji..."
Vishwanath turned quickly, Kashi was standing behind him now, concern etched into her gentle features. Her eyes were wide and searching, quietly asking for an answer even before her words reached him.
