Dinner had passed with laughter and light conversations. Kashi felt more at ease today. After talking to her Sunetra di, the emptiness she had always carried from not having a sibling seemed to melt away. In Sunetra, she had found not just a sister, but a confidante, a guiding light. Though she had never imagined herself talking about such intimate things with anyone let alone her sister-in-law but somehow, opening up to her had felt surprisingly comforting.
It was all because of her gentle encouragement and warmth that Kashi now felt a quiet confidence stirring within her, a readiness to finally share her feelings with her Veer ji, something she had longed to do, but had never found the courage or the right moment to, until now.
She quietly made her way upstairs, her heart fluttering with anticipation. Her steps were lighter now, her soul calmer. She was just about to enter her room when she heard a familiar voice behind her.
"Kashi!"
She turned, and there stood Sunetra, calling her out with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "Yes, Didi? Do you need something?"
Sunetra, still a few steps away, walked towards her with graceful ease, holding a neatly wrapped box tied with a silk ribbon. The glint in her eyes could only mean one thing, mischief disguised as affection.
"No, I don't need anything," Sunetra replied, her grin growing wider as she stopped in front of her. "But I do have something for you."
She extended the box towards her.
Kashi blinked, caught off guard. "A gift? For me?"
Sunetra nodded. "Just a little something. I thought you could wear it tonight. Before you finally confess to Devarsa." She winked, her tone drenched in mischief.
Kashi looked down at the box, her fingers gently brushing the soft ribbon. "But what is it, Didi?"
Sunetra leaned in, raising her perfectly shaped eyebrow. "It's a nightwear. A special and unique one. You know......." she added with another exaggerated wink.
Kashi tilted her head, innocence glowing on her face. How could a nightdress be special and unique? she wondered. But she only smiled earnestly and said, "Ohh.....thank you, Didi. This is really sweet of you."
Sunetra chuckled, utterly endeared. "You're welcome, my little shy sister. Just make sure you wear it tonight, alright?" she said with a playful wink.
Kashi looked down at the box again, unsure, almost as if it held a secret she hadn't yet learned to decode. "Okay" she murmured, still polite, her eyes swirling with a mix of curiosity and confusion.
Sunetra took a step back, her smirk deepening. "All the best, hmm?" she whispered with a knowing look.
Kashi gave a small nod.
Sunetra turned to leave, then called out one last time over her shoulder with a teasing laugh, "My good girl don't be too good in front of Devarsa!"
Her laughter echoed faintly down the corridor, and Kashi stood still for a moment, hugging the gift to her chest, cheeks flushed in shades of pink.
She shook her head with a soft smile at her Sunetra di, she was mischievous and bold, yet so warm and comforting. Just like the elder sister she had always yearned for but never had.
Kashi entered her room, gently closing and locking the door behind her. Her heart was pounding, not out of fear, but something new, something thrilling. It was Excitement. Tonight, she was finally ready to tell her husband how much she loved him.
She walked over to the bed and carefully placed the box down. Veer ji could come anytime, she reminded herself, and decided she should probably change into whatever Sunetra di had gifted quickly.
