Anjali's eyes glistened with unshed tears as she continued her story, her voice low, almost trembling. "What I thought was my forever happily ever after with Ravi, turned into hell"
Flashback continuation.....
After the Bundela's shut their doors on her, Ravi brought Anjali to Jhansi. He urged her to try again, to speak with her family again, but Anjali refused. She knew they would never agree. Instead, she told him to take her to his house. Frustrated, Ravi complied, though irritation lingered in his heart. He believed that sooner or later she would change her mind and return to reconcile with her parents. But Anjali never did, she couldn't. She was bound by the unbreakable promise her mother had forced upon her."
At first, Anjali tried to adjust, convincing herself that love was enough to overcome everything. But within the first few months of marriage, the illusion shattered. She realized her brother Viraj had been right all along, Ravi was not the right man for her.
He drank heavily, often coming home late, reeking of alcohol. He abused her with words so foul she hadn't even heard them before in her sheltered life. He borrowed money from neighbors, stole whenever he could, gambled recklessly, and lived without shame.
Worse, he began demanding that Anjali return to her father and bring money. But every time, Anjali blatantly refused. With each refusal, Ravi's anger only burned hotter. His words turned into weapons, and often his hands followed.
His parents, old and kind-hearted, tried to shield Anjali. They scolded their son, defended her, but age had limited their strength.
-
Then one night, Ravi stumbled home drunk, his laughter cruel and bitter as he told her "I never loved you, Anjali. I married you only for your father's money and property."
Those words shattered her completely, breaking her heart into a million pieces.
There were nights when her heart longed to run back, to fall at her parent's feet, to beg for their forgiveness. But every time, her mother's vow echoed in her mind. The invisible chain kept her shackled, forcing her to endure her misery as punishment for choosing Ravi.
Her world had collapsed, until one day, a small ray of light entered her life. She discovered she was pregnant. But the pregnancy came with complications, and Anjali nearly lost her life in the struggle. Still, she endured. And after nine long, painful months, that ray of light took form in her arms, her baby girl, Kashi. The moment she held her daughter close, her shattered heart found a new reason to live.
But for Ravi, the birth of a girl was nothing but another disappointment.
He had always wanted a boy, convinced that if Anjali gave birth to a son, Rajbir Bundela would be forced to accept them, after all who could resist a grandson? But when a girl was born, Ravi's face hardened. To him, a daughter was useless. He never believed, that not everyone thinks like him, that not everyone sees a daughter as a burden.
He never once showed fatherly affection to Kashi. Instead, he spat venom, calling his own child a burden and unwanted.
Each cruel word left invisible wounds on little Kashi's tender heart. She could never understand why the man who should have loved her the most, seemed to despise her existence.
But Anjali became her shield. She stood between Ravi's hatred and her daughter, her love a fragile yet unbreakable armor. Determined, she worked tirelessly, enrolling Kashi in a modest yet good private school in Jhansi, even when Ravi sneered at the idea. To him, girls had no need for education, they were meant only for household work before being married off.
