The sun had barely dipped when the youngsters returned from their picnic trip. Laughter and chatter followed them into the grand threshold of Singhania Mansion. The sprawling hall glowed warmly under the chandelier lights.
Inside, the elder members of the family were already gathered. Maan and Rajendra sat together, their voices low as they discussed something important, while Shalini and Aradhya were seated on the other side, open photo albums resting on their laps. Their eyes sparkled as they flipped through pages filled with memories of the boys when they were little.
As soon as the group entered, the elders looked up with smiles.
"Finally, you all are back?" Shalini's affectionate voice greeted them the moment they stepped inside.
"Yes, Mami ji," Shaurya replied first, flashing a grin as he dropped onto the sofa. Vishwanath and Raghav followed him in, settling down with composed ease, while Rudra, true to his nature, flopped dramatically into the cushions, earning a round of amused headshakes from everyone.
Kashi and Sunetra quietly settled beside Aradhya and Shalini, who beckoned them closer with a warm smile.
"So, how was the trip? Kashi, did you enjoy?" Aradhya asked, her eyes twinkling. The simple question drew a soft laugh from everyone.
Kashi's cheeks warmed as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "Yes, Bua ji....it was fun," she admitted shyly.
"Fun for all of us, Maa sa," Sunetra chimed in quickly with a mischievous grin. "But especially for Kashi" She gave her a playful nudge, making Kashi turn crimson.
Just then, Aradhya flipped a page in the family album resting on her lap and pointed it out. "Kashi, Sunetra, look at this....."
The photograph captured a seven-year-old Shaurya and a six-year-old Vishwanath standing side by side in bright t-shirts, their innocent grins frozen in time.
Kashi's lips curved into a tender smile. "They look so cute" she whispered, her gaze naturally drifting to Vishwanath, who returned her look with a faint, amused smile.
Sunetra giggled. "Yes, Maa sa who would have thought these innocent little boys would one day grow into such serious, commanding men?" Sunetra teased, her words sparking another round of laughter across the room.
Rudra chuckled the loudest, leaning forward with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I can relate, Sunetra bhabhi. Honestly, I sometimes wonder how I ended up related to such boring brothers."
His playful jab only deepened the laughter, while Vishwanath and Shaurya shot him twin glares, half stern, half amused.
"And yet the family still wonders how we ended up with you," Vishwanath retorted dryly, his voice edged with mock severity.
Shaurya leaned back with a smirk and added, "Boring or not, at least we don't stand in front of the mirror every morning, admiring ourselves for hours."
Rudra gasped in theatrical outrage, clutching his chest as though mortally wounded. The act was so dramatic that the laughter doubled, echoing through the room.
"But for me," Aradhya cut in fondly, "you will always be that little Shaurya who clung to the edge of my dupatta, following me everywhere."
Shalini laughed, her eyes soft with nostalgia. "And Vishu, the stubborn boy who would sulk for hours if his toy car went missing. No matter how powerful you both become, for us you will always remain those same little boys."
