.....................................................................................................................................

The following morning, a quiet tension hung in the manor like a low-humming string. While everyone gathered around the long dining table, sharing bread, eggs, and light chatter before heading out for their patrols, one absence was impossible to ignore.

Their captain was there.... Physically, but she wasn't with them.

Alya sat alone at a smaller table tucked into the corner of the room, away from the morning warmth and noise. It wasn't uncommon for her to enjoy quiet, but this was different. She had a slice of untouched toast and a mug of coffee slowly going cold, her eyes fixed on a paper before her. Her pen scratched softly across the paper, her brows slightly furrowed. Whatever she was writing, it had consumed her completely.

Asta glanced toward her, lowering her fork.

Asta: Hey... So what happened with Alya?

The dwarf kept her voice low, her tone laced with genuine concern.

Celty: She's been like that since this morning... But nothing seemed wrong last night when we were celebrating...

She murmured, glancing over her shoulder at their captain. Her expression creased with worry, lips pressed into a thin line.

Iska: Wait, did something happen after we all went to bed?

She turned toward Kaguya, Lyra, and Ryu, hoping for an answer, but the three exchanged uncertain glances, shoulders lifting in helpless shrugs.

Lyra: She received a letter last night... And ever since then, all she's been doing is writing letters and sending them off to who knows where.

Ryu: That letter was from her mother, right? Do you think something happened?

Her voice was soft, but the worry behind it was unmistakable.

Kaguya: How bad can it be if she's this focused...

She gestured slightly toward Alya, who was scribbling with such intensity it was as if the world around her didn't exist.

Alise: Well, I'm worried. She hasn't told us anything. She's just been so... Caught up in whatever's going on.

Just then, there was a gentle knock at the door.

Before anyone could push back their chairs, Alya was already up in a flash, practically sprinting.

Alya: I'll get it!

They all blinked, startled. The dining area didn't offer a clear view of the front door, but they could hear the distant creak as it opened, followed by the rustle of paper and a brief pause.

Moments later, Alya returned with a new piece of paper in her hand, her eyes scanning it intensely as she walked back to her seat.

But she never made it that far.

A furrow creased her brow.

Her jaw tightened.

Her steps slowed.
